They weren't primaritive.

Think about the Natives (Azteks and such) before Columbus.

They were as advanced as any civilization on Earth, but, they didn't have guns.

The Krogan homeland literally looks like South America

They weren't living out of caves and hunter, gatherer.

Go through Grunt's loyalty mission and they show how advanced they were before the Salarians called on them to eliminate the Rachi

He used the metaphor of "cave men" just to show how much more advanced the Salarian weapons were.

yooo just finished the omega mission in ME3

thought it was gonna be a quick side mission

if I’d known it’d be this intense I would’ve saved it for a bit later

Yeah, I'd say that if BioWare were to call out a specific relationship as canon, it'd be Liara. It's the only one that they actually give any serious thought to throughout the entire trilogy, and since she can roll with either Shepard, they wouldn't be excluding anyone by it being her.
