The Marshall Mathers LP was 1 of the most popular albums in the 2000s, is it a top 25 Hip Hop album?

It's still an enjoyable album but it's subject matter is what stops it from being in the top 25.

I think it's a great album but top 25 is rare air when we are talking about genre wide objectivity. Top 50 would be a lock for me because at that point it's not just about whether an album is timeless or flawless, by then you would have gotten the majority of those albums pointed up. To me 'classics' don't necessarily have to be baby fresh 20 years down the line, but they gotta have their moment. I feel like Em's first three albums, MMLP and TES specifically created their own moments. Being that X and Em are two of my favorite artists, came out around the same time, both shocking/unique after a wave of 'shiney suit' commercialism, their material kind of hits me the same.

I love IDAHIH when it dropped, second album as well but the production and subject matter kind of created a time capsule around the experience, which is fine. To me it doesn't diminish the impact or even the quality, just means they were meant to be enjoyed in that moment. I find most albums are like that. In fact some of the albums that are able to avoid that time capsule effect are usually albums that didn't really get the kind of respect they deserved past or present. Think along the lines of Reachin by Digable Planets as opposed to something like Doggystyle, another album that I really don't enjoy listening to decades after the fact, though most people wouldn't rank the former over the latter.

It might be top 10 just for the fact he pushed boundaries but the mainstream got on the wave
Cage and necro was 2 white rappers he copied but they had no backing at the time
