Yikes!! What was the point of doing that? He was already kicking out.
Our good brother Ref. Stephon would never make that mistake.Yikes!! What was the point of doing that? He was already kicking out.
That kind of thing needs to be justified and thought out, though. Being edgy for the sake of it ends up coming off forced and fake and the worst thing you can do is "oh you thought that was uncomfortable, wait till you watch this" because then it turns into crash TV.AEW should lean into this bullshyt controversy about did they go too far.
Last time that popped was when Athena had that stiff as hell Dark match up in Canada against a Canadian wrestler where she was heeling it up. They leaned into it ever since with her in ROH, and it’s been some of the best women’s wrestling programming ever since.
That's because Bryce knew that Jack Perry has never done leg day, ever. Jungle Boy doesn't have the leg strength to kick a soccer ball 5 feet. That shyt was so weird watching live. I have no clue why Bryce thought Perry couldn't kick out and he needed to "untangle" the legs.
he was already kicking out though. Bryce didn't even get to go 2 and half on the countThat's because Bryce knew that Jack Perry has never done leg day, ever. Jungle Boy doesn't have the leg strength to kick a soccer ball 5 feet.
Yeah, there was no reason for Bryce to do that.he was already kicking out though. Bryce didn't even get to go 2 and half on the count
I agree. You can embrace the spirit of it though with how you market and present the product, not necessarily turning it into ECW/CZW though. That kind of thing needs to be justified and thought out, though. Being edgy for the sake of it ends up coming off forced and fake and the worst thing you can do is "oh you thought that was uncomfortable, wait till you watch this" because then it turns into crash TV.
I do agree they have to make the reaction to the plastic bag and the cage match mean as much as possible during this week of TV. They can't pretend like it's business as usual and just move on to the next thing. But if there's no good reason to do something along the lines of Hangman/Swerve or Mox's turn, don't force it and just wait whatever months are needed to do something in that vein.
Fox just finished up their five-year run with WWE, and they may not be completely out on pro wrestling for the future. Thought the relationship briefly soured with WWE before Vince McMahon's exit, Fox had long looked at bringing on additional pro wrestling content. Years ago, they nearly landed MLW for Tubi, which resulted in a lawsuit. In recent months, Fightful reported that they'd also been interested in a seasonal wrestling program for Tubi. There has been discussion backstage in and within the TV world that select AEW content could be headed there.
After the Shockwave trademark emerged, there was internal speculation in both worlds that a new program could be headed to the Fox family of networks, whether it be Fox itself, Tubi, FS1, or anywhere else. One source close to Fox had indicated to Fightful and Beyond the Bell's Andrew Zarian that there were no troubles in moving ads for wrestling, but that the cost of Smackdown cut into that quite a bit, and that Fox would be interested in keeping wrestling as a part of their programming with the right deal.
This would come as a major change for AEW, as when they added Collision to their current WBD deal, exclusivity was worked in, which is why AEW Dark no longer exists. We're told that regardless of what deal is reached, the exclusivity clause runs through the end of the year, but was a part of the WBD discussions that could see a return of non-exclusive programming.
At least one source near Fox's side did claim that the two sides had contact, but when reaching out to Fox reps, they did not return our request for comment or insight. Neither AEW or Fox have confirmed these talks.
Tubi is huge, and a lot of its viewers would be people who likely have never been AEW viewers. So a great avenue to potentially grow their fanbase. And the average age of a Tubi viewer is 39, which as you can imagine is significantly younger than cable or broadcast TV.I had no idea the reach that Tubi had until I was listening to a business podcast and they were discussing how many people watch Tubi...
Wrestling on Tubi would damn near write itself
Put Darby in one of those Tubi horrors
According to the AVclub, Tubi had its most viewers ever in a month with an average of one million watching in May.
Disney+ had 969,000 viewers last month according to Nielsen data. Tubi also surpassed NBCUniversal’s Peacock, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max and Paramount Global’s Paramount+ while also beating out free competitors such as the Roku Channel and Pluto TV. YouTube is the only free ad-supported streaming platform with more viewers than Tubi, according to the LA Times.
Tubi reports that 63% of its users identify as individuals who have never had a cable package, or “cord-nevers.” Additionally, approximately half of Tubi's user base is classified as multicultural, encompassing Black, Latino, Asian, and LGBTQ+ audiences.
