debatable...joel came in the room assault rifle in hand w/ a flamethrower on his back...the surgeon then picks up a scalpel and stands his ground...joel who has been fighting hordes of infected and entire armies of men primarily armed w/ bricks and bottles could have EASILY disarmed that surgeon who was more than likely unskilled/far less proficient in hand to hand combat...joel used excessive force...that shyt was murder...he also murdered the sister in cold blood...shot her twice AFTER she dropped her weapon and no longer was an immediate threat to him...he got his justice eventually
Ok, then he killed him lol
They were going to kill Ellie. No matter the reason.
After sitting with it for a while I can make some claims now.
Gameplay/Graphics: 10/10
This game is a 10/10 on this standpoint, with all the ways you can strategize against enemies and pick people off one by one, traversal & upgrades etc., Seattle looks true to form and I loved the rain and ever changing weather and environments you can use to your advantage, I loved that they intensified the horror aspect of the game, I don't think anyone is gonna argue against any of this
Story/Plot: 6/10
The game is a 6/10 based on this. I get the direction they were going with the "revenge is bad" narrative but it was poorly executed and suffered from terrible pacing. The moment in Ellie's story where you encounter Abby the first time at the climax of the game, they stupidly ruin it by reverting back to Day 1 in Abby's story which completely takes you out the moment and forces you to play as Abby for 10 hrs just to get back to that spot just for Ellie to get her ass beat.
They could have at least had you play up to this moment with Abby and Ellie's days in a more simultaneous sequence if they were going the 50% Ellie and 50% Abby route like they did. Truthfully it should have been 100% Ellie and brief cutscenes for Abby to build her as the antagonist. Also would have loved for Ellie and Abby to have had an actual dialogue at the end about how fighting each other is pointless and costed them both so much but nah Ellie was just like "Take him" and Abby just dipped
Characters: 9/10
Great dialogue and supporting characters as usual from ND, Although I personally didn't care for Abby they did a great job with developing her character throughout the game, her comrades Manny, Owen, Mel, Nora to name a few were decent and had some really good chemistry with each other, would have liked to have seen more that Issac dude considering how much they spoke of him in the game, Lev and Yara although I felt they were too involved were decent but unnecessary characters that I feel sidetracked the story too much. Dina and Jesse were cool additions too.
Overall I would say the game is about 8 to and 8.5 out of 10, it's an amazing game that is flawed story and pacing wise which could have made for a better ending, the first game is a 10/10 to me personally and in my top 5 all time so that's how highly I regard it
The supporting characters are damn near worse than the actual storyline
Especially when you compare to the first game which had absolutely phenomenal supporting characters
Neither the Fireflies nor Joel asked Ellie what she wanted. Joel saved Ellie's life but he also robbed her of her choice to sacrifice her life.
And Joel killed Abby's father, pure and simple. Given the circumstances is it understandable? Yes, but it's still murder and from Abby's perspective Joel killed her father and destroyed the chance to create a vaccine.
joel coulda easily kept the surgeon @ bay w/ the AR/flamethrower etc. ...backed him up and grab ellie...@ no point did the surgeon advance toward joel or ellie w/ the scalpel...if the doctor rushes him w/ a scalpel then he’s an idiot who got what he deserved...but joel slaughtered him immediately
Because he was going to kill Ellie.
he was going to operate on ellie in the hopes of finding a cure for humanity since you weirdos want to play semantics
he stopped the procedure immediately when joel entered the room...again joel could have backed him down w/ weapon in hand and secured ellie
And that operation would have resulted in the death of Ellie. Look I'm not saying it's morally right for Joel to do what he did. But it's self defense.
again if we’re being super technical it’s literally not @ the bold...it would be considered defense of others which flies in certain states
An individual is justified in threatening or using force against another individual when and to the extent that the individual reasonably believes that force or a threat of force is necessary to defend the individual or another individual against the imminent use of unlawful force.
