Games have been geeting good and/or successful adaptations for years now. Castlevania, Witcher (book, but still), Sonic, Arcane.

sometimes people just like some shyt because the shyt is good :yeshrug:

This is an IP with +37M cumulative sales by the way. The notion that people think it's good because they "want it to be successful" is comical when posited against the notion that perhaps it is successful because people actually think it's good and that's WHY it is successful. I mean, look at the existing evidence.

The show is true to form when compared to the game so the reasoning translates
And you’re right, I agree with you. There has been successful video game adaptations, and people could just like TLOU because it’s good. Something about this show feels a bit different though. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s HBO’s promotion of the show. But this show feels like it has the machine behind it. More than i’ve ever seen a video game adaptation have before (I’m glad it does btw). So viewership shouldn’t be bad anyway. Word of mouth, absolutely it has that, but HBO has been going hard on promoting it (as they should, they put a lot of money in it/promo and all).

And yeah the show is good. But when you look at the ratings it’s been getting (not the viewership, I’m talking the numeric score review sites are giving it). The show hasn’t been as good as what 95% of these review sites and Youtubers are saying it is. Forget being one of the best scored video game adaptations of all time. It’s basically one of the best reviewed TV show/Movie ever reviewed period. I don’t think most of those reviews are for the whole season (some did see the entire season already). Just keeping it a hunnid. I like the show, and I’m not complaining. I’m just pointing out how things look to me.

I’ve seen Episode 2 once. I’m a watch it again later. I might like it more and say I’m wrong. But from what I’ve seen it definitely ain’t a 10/10. Anyone who says it is, might be biased, have an agenda, and/or is grading on a curve. I’ve watched a lot of tv over the years. This episode wasn’t 10/10 television (you didn’t say it was, I’m talking about sites like imdb etc).

I don’t think I’m sold yet on this whole new “hive mind” angle they have given the infected, they are incredibly dangerous without that, seems kinda unnecessary
it's a scientific thing. google mycelium and/or mycorrhizal network

first scene of episode one established this through the epidemiologist: "billions of puppets with poisoned minds, permanently fixed on one unifying goal: to spread the infection to every last human alive by any means necessary"

a network of fungi makes sense. especially when based on something scientific.

HBO is going too far promoting the show.

The question answers itself. If it has never happened to humans, the immediate answer isn’t to just throw up our hands and say “we give up”.
I didn’t interpret her emotion and suggestion as giving up.

I guess it depends how you look at the “we”. When she knew they couldn’t locate the 14 missing workers, I took her look & response as it’s too late. Bomb the city to stop/slow it from spreading to other cities.

So maybe she gave up on “we” as in the people in Jakarta…..but not necessarily the “we” as in the rest of the world.

Especially considering she’s a specialist on the subject.

Again, TLoU isn't coming into the scene as a say - Chernobyl or [insert unknown quantity here]. This is a gigantic IP - of course it is going to have the machine behind it. But the machine didn't end up there because HBO decided people should like this - the machine is there because people already like this.

It's a very simple story - always has been - but it resonates with people thus it reviews well. This show is compelling watch - and that's just being objective. Only way one wouldn't find it to be is if they were approaching it from a cynical point of view from the start. I mean, for all the talk about it supposedly not being as good as what 95% of review sites and youtubers say, that you're doing - you'd be hard pressed to name a handful of shows with these production values, world building (the world building in the show is even better than in the games, every opening scene thus far has arguably been the highlight of each episode), acting talent and tension. What - House of The Dragon? What else? And House of The Dragon has Game of Thrones baggage

That's not to say that there aren't other good shows, there are. Just that there aren't many doing those things at this level currently. As such; scores will reflect that.

Again, sometimes people just like some shyt because the shyt is good. Even if you, yourself, are not the biggest fan of it :yeshrug:

One cool thing I read from the director was that the infected aren’t necessarily always violent. It wants to spread, not kill people. They didn’t attack Tess because she wasn’t resisting or trying to escape.

Basically if you don’t resist it won’t attack you, it will just calmly try to infect you. Which honestly isn’t any better than getting tore the fukk up :heh:

:whoo::whoo::whoo:You deserve a medal for that.

Aren't there still new episodes though?
Nah they finished a couple months ago. They have 3 spin-offs tho :dead: with all the main characters. I might watch one.

Rick quit with the show a couple seasons back so they gotta finish his story arch. They was gonna do a move but now they just said they gonna make a 6 ep show to finish his story.

I think they also said, they could sense the infection in tess which is why most ran past her, she had fungal tentacles sprouting from her shoulder, I saw someone say they don’t understand why they do that with Ellie, but obviously it’s dormant in her, it doesn’t grow, it’s just a bite
