The sad thing is, if the Islanders just put a decent team on the ice the Coliseum would be sold out regardless of how crappy the arena is. Remember a few years ago when they were the 8th seed in the playoffs, the Coliseum was rocking every night that last month of the season.
this is so true, it's not like the islanders are irrelevant like the nets were even when they were good. build a good team and people came, it's managements/the owners fault for tanking this team, but then again they got what they wanted

As for the Queens talk, that's soccer country brehs. NYC2 gonna build there, all you other sports had your chance

The Islanders have been handicapped by their abysmal arena, making it difficult to attract free agents to come to the team and fans to show up for one that has consistently been at or near the bottom of the Eastern Conference in recent seasons

This is some nerve though. Free agents come when there's a good team, let's see..... Minnesota or 30 minutes from NYC and a generally nice area in LI?

As shytty as the Coliseum was I loved watching the Rangers play there the atmosphere was crazy and theres not a bad seat in the house. But going to Rangers vs. Islanders games at MSG the train ride home with the 50/50 split :whew: shyt gets intense sometimes.

Oh man really? I thought the Jets had the west side deal and the Rangers crushed it.

Another bloomy failure. Flushing meadows park is nice though, you should keep a park.

It was specifically the Dolans/Cablevision not wanting such close competition to MSG as a draw.

Thanks man. Looks like SI should get a subway to me.:yeshrug:

Good luck with that. :russ: If it didn't get built when everything else was built, it's not happening in this city. All they have is the Staten Island Railway, which feels so different from all the other trains.

Nah I think the proposal was to build where the iron triangle is.

Jets wanted the West Side for football. The Wilpons wanted the Islanders to move to the Iron Triangle to boost their Willets Point dream, which thankfully is crumbling apart.

I went to a Ranger/Islander game at the Coliseum back in 98, game went into OT and I think Graves scored the game winner. Crowd was live the entire game. It's boss is a diehard Islander fan and he despises Wang for running the team into the ground.

And like you said, the arena sucked but there wasn't a bad seat in the house. I've been there for Hockey, WWF, and a concert and every seat I had was pretty good.

Now if the Isles were smart, they'd rename it the Brooklyn Islanders w/ the Brooklyn Bridge as the logo. By 2015, Taveras should be the best/one of the best in the league.
