The sad thing is, if the Islanders just put a decent team on the ice the Coliseum would be sold out regardless of how crappy the arena is. Remember a few years ago when they were the 8th seed in the playoffs, the Coliseum was rocking every night that last month of the season.

LIRR is a piece of shyt, especially during winter time, and prices are going up 9% next year
there are delays on the LIRR even if it drizzles. prime example of the mass transit robbery in this city. i feel bad for those people paying for that plus a monthly metrocard in NY.

Islanders won't be moving til 2015, but this is cool. How will the steepness of the arena affect the view? i was at the top level for the jay concert & goddamn that arena is steep...steeper than the old Yankee Stadium for sure. it works for basketball, but what about hockey? works for the arena noise too.

A ton of Long Islanders take the trip to MSG for Rangers games I don't see why they wouldn't for the Barclays center. It actually might be more convenient then having to drive when you probably want to drink.

I'm bias because I work with a lot of Islander fans and each one is like fukk traveling to Brooklyn. They all think BK is like BK in the 80's and early 90's. Then again I think the Islanders really catered to the born and bred on Long Island crowd, the ones the refuse to travel into the 5 boro's for just about anything.

YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I made the wrong choice and chose the Islanders over the Rangers in my youth, even though they were in Long Island, now I can go back to being a proper Islanders fan again, if hockey ever comes back

good for me, but this isnt islanders country.

SINY!!
How come the Giants and Jets didn't build on staten island?

-mass transit here is terrible (one train line, buses suck and don't cover some parts of the island)

-3 bridges, whose tolls are overpriced

-traffic here is already terrible, and it would be even worse (the potential traffic disasters are why no NASCAR joint was built here)

Went to the Jets final game at the old meadowlands when they blew out cincy to get into the playoffs and word to me a nikka almost died in that cold waiting on that fukking train breh. :snoop:

The Garden and the Barclays are so easy to get to via the MTA train, going to the New Meadowlands is too much fukking work :mindblown: unless you're driving or live in NJ.

New York fukkin' City
I think it's Reb that's always creating the distinction between "old Brooklyn" and "new Brooklyn". I don't think that old Brooklyn would have cared but new Brooklyn will. :manny: but again like all things we'll know for sure with time.

Also, I'm not familiar with the hockey climate but how is the city being a Rangers city different than it being a Knicks city before the Nets relocated? Is it just a matter of not enough people caring about hockey for it to even put a dent in the Rangers fan base?

IMO New York isn't the biggest hockey town. I know the fan base is rabid but only until last years Rangers run did I actually see backpages dedicated to hockey and it being mentioned on talk radio. I think I know like 1 hardcore hockey fan.

Brooklyn basketball just seems like a much easier sell to me.
