What doesn't make sense?

Ohio state had the greater body of work when you account for the entire season

They also made some emphatic statements about scheduling and stuff

You will be punished for have a nonconference schedule like Baylore

If you play horrible against bad teams in the worst Even though you're undefetead you are not number 1 and we will not let you play close to home
then why were OSU ranked below the top 4 for most of the season?

then why were OSU ranked below the top 4 for most of the season?

The rankings were fluid from week to week..Osu ended the season destroying a top 15 team which pushed their body of work ahead of the other two teams

There really was no reason for weekly rankings because they meant little it was simply done for drama and tv ratings a typical espn manufactured thing..you and others who are puzzled took it too literally

And Baylor destroyed a top 10 team.

thats the point. There is no way that TCU drops 3 places after winning by 52 points. Its inconceivable.

OSU's defense this year is FAR different from last year. Personnel wise, the only defensive back from last year's team is Doran Grant, first team All Big Ten. Eli Apple, Vonn Bell, and Tyvis Powell were not starters all of last season (Vonn only played real time against Clemson).

Also, the defensive scheme used last year is much different than this year. Last year, we were without Bradley Roby for the bowl game because of an injury. As a result, they just played a soft zone coverage playing far off the ball. Sammy Watkins caught about 155 bubble screens in that game against OSU. This year, with a new secondary coach, OSU plays an up front press man coverage style, which has changed results dramatically.

Look at the pass defensive numbers compared to last year and tell me it's practically the same:
http://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/stat/opponent-passing-yards-per-game

This year OSU is 11th in passing yards allowed, last year OSU was 118th. That's a huge difference.
This year OSU is 6th in defensive passer rating, last year OSU was 83rd. Again, not the same defense.
School em

"Everyone can do the math," Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said Friday. "Four slots and five big conferences, and beyond the five big conferences there are other strong teams. So any bellyaching about not getting in, I don't think people are going to react to that. We went into it expecting it to be controversial, expecting at least one conference to be on the outside looking in."

A playoff with fewer spots keeps the pressure on teams that already have clinched conference championships. It also gives the sport a marketing boost.

"If you know you're guaranteed a spot for your conference champion in the playoffs," Scott said, "you care less about what's going on in other parts of the country." --- Pac 12 commissioner

^^^^^I agree with this wholeheartedly.. I like that its 4. It keeps the competitiveness so high every week among the leaders. And keeps the regular season scheduling top notch in order to get there

TYRONE GA!
if they didnt release polls every week, there would be no issue

having this weekly thing and people making arbitrary decisions has killed this for me

I pine for the old days where we just had polls, and bowl tie-ins, and fukkery on New Years Day. Much better than this organized mess.

Yeah, ESPN just fukked their ratings with that whole weekly where they stand rankings. There's no need to watch until conference championship weekend going forward.

If you wanna be 100% safe as a power 5 team, you gotta be an undefeated conference champ.

Baylor won by 10 and it was a one score game a lot of the 4th quarter

Tcu beat a 2-9 team..because they were 3 doesn't mean they were by a large margin..committee said Osu was ahead of Baylor and tcu by a large margin

but TEAMS are SUPPOSED to care less about whats going on in other parts of the country

Its always been 'play FOR YOUR CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS and a chance to win [rose/sugar/cotton] bowl and national title". Now its hope you're chosen for a playoff? thats some sucker shyt

here is the thing, I dont actually have a problem with OSU making it. I dont care.

The process is terrible.

IF we were under the OLD OG system it would be

osu - oregon in rose bowl
Florida state vs. alabama in the orange bowl

if FSU wins then the AP WOULD crown them as champs. The coaches are suspect and would've maybe chosen osu if they won, and FSU won.
If bama wins they would've gotten the nod over either osu oregon winner by both coaches and AP.

Theres no way TCU / Baylor would've gotten in a game that would earn them a right to have the national title discussion
.

conference champ tourney or bust

lets go by what you said Ed

We clinched the Pac North some weeks back. What would have stopped us from taking the next couple of games on reserve mode and even losing but still knowing it doesnt matter cuz all we gotta do is when the Pac championship? Wheres the drama?? Wheres the week to week meaning? It wouldnt be the same
