@The HONORABLE SKJ Whats your opinion on OVO?

Everything I would want an imprint to be

When I worked for my family member imprint are goal was to find a rapping/singer hybrid like Drake

So we wouldnt have to keep paying some r&b cat for hooks

We also wanted to be artistic but commercially successful at the same time

By experimenting and taking risks

ovo got dark trip hop tracks...trap beats...pop...hip hop..r&b..and now dancehall

I FUKKING LOVE THE DIVERSITY :blessed:

The haters are just closeminded and SCARED to chances like OVO

and for the record OVO DID NOT INVENT GHOSTWRITING.....

so lets move on

what I respect about them is that their music lanes are so wide right now...and their merch game is probably among the best in the game.

What are you thoughts on the death of hip hop journalism, as well as its fake "return" through sites like the revamped Genius, Mass Appeal, MTV, etc.

Also thoughts on TDE's management?

i can sort of answer it. its dead and it sucks. In reality from all the 06 era bloggers, only rob unkut, byron crawford and eskay are left. For instance, i have a friend at complex, like the nikka is legit in over there, i like the guy good dude, nikka interviewed goldberg the other day. there was a time say, in 2014, where a nikka like me could get on complex because of the editors being still close to rob unkut, in other words, good hip hop could still get on, its how i got there. with new management, that shyt IS NOT HAPPENING. Its a fukkin bubble of payola, arrogance, yellow journalism clickbait. the whole thing is fukkin garbage. my homie will never ever put me back on complex unless im in that bubble, which i will likely never be because i dont do that bullshyt and i dont work with anyone like a publicist who can get me that kinda pull because the returns for me arent worth it. shyts wack.

why do you think the music industry the way it is, in terms of the shadiness, the secrecy, the greed, the corruption? is it simply based on the amount of money a person can gain from the acts and works of another? when did this really begin, i wonder? @The HONORABLE SKJ

The "7 dollar" myth at Koch records was based on a half truth

If you PAID for your own marketing and promotions them they (koch) would let you keep 7 dollar per mechanical sale

Keep in mind thier is NO ADVANCES

They offered tier packages you pay for kinda like the deal I had with Universal/tunecore

Even when they revamped under new mgmt and after the 50 cent exposal they emerged with new tier packages for the social media generation

Here is the layout

How to get a RECORD DEAL f/E1 Ent. (formerly known as Koch)

By 2012 this had become the norm even for major labels whom were too cash strapped to dole out advances

So what you're saying is, if I want to make money in the music business, don't make music, start a label and fukk hungry artists out of their money because they'll do anything to chase their dream :patrice:

gee, the music industry sure does sound shady!

Breh what happened to dancehall

And how did you feel about it going mainstream in the late 90s/early 00s? Did you fukk with Sean Paul and Beenie Man and all those dudes?

Of course I did...beanie and bounty killa were like the two most dominating figures in dancehall

As far as the mainstreaming of dancehall it was a blessing and curse much like rap

On one hand dancehall going mainstream allowed many like myself to be entertained by this genre and experience the culture I really had respect and research the culture by attending Stone Love and Addies dances and getting educated by folks in the carribean

But on the other hand it made good artists like Sean Paul conform to Pop Cuture standards and waterdown the culture....

I expected that..but what I DONT LIKE is the AMERICANIZATION (yankee) of dancehall...EDM type beats..homo erotic behavior...hip hop vocals and lingo and the lack of balance between consciousness and commercialisim...

The Mighty LBC
I root heavy for the breh Al Haymon, but is the jig up for dude? Is all the Hedge fund money for PBC run out? Is it basically over for PBC? What the breh gonna do next?:lupe::mjcry:

What about all of the talent he has under contract, can he flip that into a promotion deal with one of/several of the majors?
