its a case of timing......when Dash, Gotti and Suge and JPrince came in....it was a familiar territory the Mafia still had it's tentacles in the industry....even Russell Simmons had to deal with them based on his relationship with Mob capo Michael Franceze.....

but now it's a very CORPORATE POLITICALLY CORRECT ERA.......so with globalsiim taking over the economy and the music industry...all three majors are foriegn owned now....Warner Bros. the last "american major" is now owned by Russians...

they kinda cleaned shop and went with Bankers and internet Technocrats as opposed to street guys......the old guard like Tommy Mottola, Doug Morris and Irving Azoff were use to rubbing shoulders with street guys jewish, italian and black...

but now these new foriegn banker types such as Goldman Sachs and Terra Firma and even Tech guys like Google are calling the shots in the industry now....so those days of a "street boss" getting in the game on a major label level is OVER..unless he conforms to the business status quo in the entertainment field...

this is all true. i had someone tell me "we do a business with def jam" and i know damn well that they are in the shyts right now with their money tied into like 2 people and thats it. i used to think this nikka was full of it, but someone i wont name used to verify all the shyt you are saying. for me and my lane and who i have with me, its either the "conway westside gunn worldwide following" type or basically nothing. There is honestly no money in this unless you wanna do shyt thats either not true to yourself or your people unless you happen to get the right advocate behind you.

the lack of journalisim in the rap game....watching my family member's indy music venture crash and burn because of politics and misguided decisions....the folding of my former magazine i worked for as creative editor...and the need for more emphasis on business related topics as opposed to just performances and songs.....because it's the MUSIC BUSINESS... :manny:

thats the one thing that actually hurt me the most, the guys from hip hop connection, scratch etc, places where i actually knew people and editors, by the time i started taking music serious (2014 in rehab) all that shyt was gone. I definately regret no getting it in then because i would have had a better following and better exposure. such is life. those guys now run blogs which i have no issue getting on, but the blog game dead.

I aint gon lie...I thought you was just some ithinkiknowitall type of nikka but the more i see your posts you be dropping gems upon gems (just did my googles on buddy you name dropped earlier in the thread smh) so lemme humble myself lol

Why do you think there aren't more black ceos these days as oppose to back in the day? Sure we got more artists trying to take ownership and smarten up but there are no Irv Gottis, Dame Dash's, D's, Suges no more in the game...in your opinion why is that?

also i failed to mention another reason why "street bosses" are having difficulty breaking into the music game at a major level like the Dash's...Master Ps and J Prince....

this BUSINESS MODEL intimidates the fukk outta them...it's a different ball game.......EVERYTHING IS DIGITAL AND STREAMING.....

The old grassroots hands on approach with physical material (cd, cassettes, vinyl) is GONE as far as media format..

and sad to say alot of these street guys with money and talent on thier roster....haven't been able to fully adapt or properly take advantage of it..

i still do consulting from time to time...and it amazes me how i come across countless "bosses" with artists who got like 30k views on thier youtube videos ...

yet they didnt take the time to click the MONETIZE button on thier youtube channel to bring in that ad revenue that thier missing out .. :mindblown:

i told one cat from middle georgia...."yo this must be a fukking hobby to you?!?!?".......

he failed to realize that even today's PROMOTION is NOT FREE PROMOTION everything can be monetized

it's sad...i recall even having a three way discussion with two cats both of whom with healthy liquid funds in thier possesion yet....they knew nothing about obtaining publishing rights on thier digital content

i straight up told them...im making more money off of YALL  just for the fact i charged both of yall to get airplay on my radio show

when both of yall could have registered your music with soundexchange as well as a digital aggregator to at least try to gain some revenue on a global level...

but i truly think especially in this age and time they are aware..they just cautious :whoa:

i remember when physical cd's of songs first start plummeting IRV GOTTI told JARULE to pump his brakes cause this "new industry" scares him...

and it should this business model really doesn't benifit anybody but the major labels....

"We (major labels) are making $$ all we do provide the file and it's straight PROFIT"- MARC GEIGER

these mofos since they got these debt management companies and hedge fund investors linking up with content providers like google are making a profit even when the artist FLOPS badly...

yeah thier is just no one available to give you a good backstory for your project or bio on your life.....like the old days with BLAZE, THE SOURCE, XXL and OZONE.....

but it's not really THIER fault..you have a ADD audience that DON'T HAVE THE TIME nor INTREST TO READ CONTENT...they just wanna click a video and stream it...and go bout they business

sad..i remember looking up to writers like James Bernard, Reginald Dennis and Dream Hampton from the THE SOURCE as well as Rob Schiender formerly of VIBE who is at MASS APPEAL from what i've been reading...

now as far as the bloggers.....they all fukked themselves because they started charging cats for content on thier site...............

that didn't work.....cause thier was so many free outlets with mass coverage (ILP, WSHH etc) to choose from so that killed the blog game

but at the end of the day the artist loses , because the artist NEEDS media and unfortunatly the artist only gets media attention if he does something sensational or is in cahoots with a big media type

You ever think about how dumb it is to decide to dislike someone simply because they have a different color of skin than you do? Like really, I don't think people really stop and think about that.

"people hate what they can't conqure...FEAR WHAT THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND..i guess that's just the theory of MAN" - Nas :manny:

we all as humans have an animal base (lower self) which makes us comfortable only with our "own kind" ........it is only the higher self (conscoius) part of us that is able to interact with those of a different aesthetic than us.....

it's sad..but it's natural..............you still see it on this board amongst those of the same race...

"i don't fukk with darkies"..."i don't fukk with lighskinned-ed people"...."i hate the south..."..."fukk them condescending yankees from up north"...."i hate gingers (redheads)"....

that shyt dont fly in my world...cause i was taught by the older gods to be a UNIVERSAL BUILDER......god in all and all in god.......

what do you think about the way Currensy set up his label situation and indie imprint JetLife Recordings?

do you think he chose the right time (2007) to dip from CMR/YM?

You think he finessed the Wayne affiliation, or that SPitta was just smart about his business acumen?

Where do you see Spitta taking his career in the future?

:salute: to the real dude. Most underrated poster in The Coli.

Is the music industry done for? It's like people don't drop actual albums anymore.
