because their experience with the college process and schooling is not the same as their parents.

shyt like FAFSA is legit a foreign concept to their parents. I know this because I was that. I never considered myself a first gen student because my parents were college grads. It was only when I talked to people in the student affairs department at the college I work at that they showed that to me. My mom had no idea what FAFSA was and looking for scholarship was foreign to her. She also aint know shyt about student life. It was class and go.

I dont think of myself as 1st Gen but the experience I had with applying, navigating financial aid, and attending school was similar to a first gen student's.

You are either or you're not first generation. You were not.
