The fact Killer Mike's rules of how Black America can save itself is actually controversial speaks volumes.

Go to school, hold down a job and don't have kids you aren't prepared to raise isn't exactly respectability politics, that's just good advice for 95% of low income people.
We could I dunno teach sexual education… notice a massive push back on that from a certain demographic :sas2:

They also defund our schools too :sas2:

They also make sure we don’t get a livable wage despite having a full time job :sas2:

Seems like it’s all connected :sas1:

Any black person who says we can bootstrap our way completely out of this situation without assistance from social programs and public policy is being disingenuous at best and a sellout at worst.

There is absolutely some things we can do on our own to improve our situation collectively, but closing the gap with our white counterparts will absolutely require properly enforced government policy as well

The very definition of bootstraps is education and working your way up the ladder. Do you think it's purely luck that some black men are making $100k+? Because if it's not working hard how else are some black people living in $500,000 houses?

They don’t want to hear this when it comes to politics and elections but youngins are the issue. This past weekends elections here in Tarrant County (Ft. Worth) with a population of 985k, only 4.4% of the population voted. Majority of that total was the 45+ crew. Can’t bytch and complain then when it’s time to put feet to pavement, you get ghost.

Yup racism is a major problem; so don't go to school or work and have kids at 19, don't take anything into your own hands, thanks that's really helpful.

Sounds like he simply gave the tips to advanced assimimilation 101. As well as black comfortability in this country. Sadly he doesnt know black comfortability is already at all time highs of 94%:francis:

Whether your black and rich, black middle class, black and poor. Black people are currently comfortable and content in our situation.

Had he simply included something about leaving the country. It would change the entire complexion of what hes saying and make it powerful. But since he didnt, this sounds like the same stuff the European/ rightwing have been telling black people. Instead of making albums about being revolutionary. He couldve just made an album called "Whitey was Right". If these are his revolutionary machinations:respect:

i see you still on here babbling and not adding anything to convos

The most successful people:

1) Got a degree or a Trade
2) Waited to have kids
3) Got married
4) Lived below their means

And by successful I mean a household of at least $100k which is:

-Above the median household income of $76k
-Comfortable in most areas in the u.s.

I don't think "working harder" is going to end white supremacy. It won't. But I can believe that while simultaneously understanding that graduating from college significantly increases the amount of money you will make in this country, on average. And that for those who do not go to college, pursuing a trade (or state/federal job) is your next best shot at attaining a comfortable life. And that in the absence of massive, federally funded aid to black communities (which is never coming), the only real option we have is to improve our own communities the best we can while also exerting political influence on the local/state level. That's not gonna topple white supremacy or end income gaps. But that's not gonna stop me from helping my cousin afford HVAC classes, or providing a written resume recommendation for the daughter of a family friend, or attending a black student finance/business club at a local university to offer whatever professional help I can give to get them into the door.

Those are the things that matter to me, and the things that I will be focusing on for the rest of my life. I have zero interest in engaging with faux revolutionary communists on twitter who preach paralysis and resent any form of achievement. I know what my mission is, and it sure as fukk isn't talking to them.
Your first sentence is the biggest mistaken conflation

Its not about "working harder" ending white supremacy. White supremacy or not black people are fukked in more ways than one. "Working harder" is about actively and deliberately trying to get a piece of this world and establish some semblance of community

White supremacy exists and is a problem but we're trying to clean up the world with a dirty kitchen. Better yet, we actually don't even have a fukkin kitchen :francis:

I don’t agree with KM a lot but he’s 100% correct in his advice. It won’t solve institutional racism or close the wealth gap but his advice would alleviate a LOT of issues and everyone can and should do what he said (education/trade/invest/no kids out of wedlock)

Dudes always twist the meaning of working harder like it's bad.

If working harder isn't good by definition, then what path is available for black men?:jbhmm:
