I never understood what this meant, because Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia were clearly colonized by Italy. Is that just denial?

Not during the height of the colonial period and the scramble for Africa, the battle of Adwa is a significant success that inspired future african independent thought and gave hope to many that Europeans colonizers could be defeated. And even when Ethiopia finally fell to the Italians 20 years later it was only for a 5 year period. Italy never colonized Ethiopia in the same way the rest of Africa at that time was.

Ethiopia is not the exception, because Ethiopia was clearly part of Italian East Africa. Italy colonized Ethiopia, Somali and Eritrea. However, you are correct about modern borders being European creations which was part of the Scramble for Africa.

For literally 5 years, it also had its fixed borders long before the Italians defeated them in the war. To compare that to other colonial states is disingenuous.

Her statement does make sense, because you fought for your independence from your colonizers but in many cases you kept the name for the country that the colonizers gave. Countries like Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria still haven't changed their names, but regardless of that fact they kept the borders of their colonizers so she was correct.

so you gonna act like ghana, zimbabwe, belize and botswana don't exist? lol

Regardless of any natural geographical features you don't seem to deny that the borders were drawn by Europeans. The border of Cameroon and Nigeria were drawn by the English and the French, despite the fact that mountains are around.

what i'm saying is the borders of countries that people represent today have changed significantly since the colonial era

for example, the borderlines of nigeria changed long after the brits were there, due to their annexing of biafra
same can be said for south sudan, due to their declaration of independence from sudan
etc.

Some of y'all dudes are off on a serious level of crazy. Reread the lady's statement and you will see that she was actually right. LOL at you actually trying to make an argument that modern countries like Ghana are the same as the Empire of Ghana. The modern country of Ghana is mostly Aka, Ewe and Ga people. The Empire of Ghana was Mande people. But keep swinging breh.

What difference does it make about how long they were colonized. The point is that they were colonized. Hell the modern country of Ghana was only colonized for about 50 some odd years, while other countries in West and Central Africa were colonized for longer periods. The bottom line is that they were colonized and the lady's statement was correct.

all the difference...

her statement is FALSE

British were in Indian for 190 years... They couldn't hold most African territories for half that. The difference is the resistance and will power of the people that's nothing to downplay

They didn't have to stay in Africa. They counted on the tribalism that they had seen during slavery being the factor that allowed White people to stay in control.

So you thought that you were dealing with an African American that didn't know African history.

So now you have nothing left but
full

:deadmanny:
absolutely nothing I said has been refuted. :pachaha: nice gif tho.

do other countries not stay the same country and go thru population shifts? simple true or false question. What you said about Ghana applies to America and even England. These countries are not the same as they were 100 of years ago population wise. Stop ducking logic with cute gifs nikka... man down.
