The trilogy:
1. The Dark Knight (9.8/10)
2. Batman Begins (8.5/10)
3. The Dark Knight Rises (7/10)
My main problem with TDKR...Talia's character. It destroyed what should have been an incredibly dope movie. Her "reveal" and her subsequent death scene were #2 and #1 as far as the lowest points of the Batman trilogy.
And her relationship with Bruce?
wha?
Bruce is on some
, depressive shyt for 8 years due to Rachel, has Selina's fine ass at his disposal, but decides to let this random investor into his life?
All in all, what's ultimately most disappointing about Talia's treatment in the film is what it means for Bane's character.
He's supposed to at least be Batman's equal, yet the movie never treats him as such. His origins and psyche are never fully explored in the way you'd expect Batman's equal to be...and they decide to make this hulking, ambitious revolutionary a simp for this out of place, totally unnecessary character.
His whole treatment is summed up by Nolan/others deciding to have Talia be the "child from hell" instead of Bane. Why was this necessary? The story would have gone to an incredible place if it explored the similarities/contrast between Bruce's childhood (eg. him falling in the well and his father picking him up) and Bane's (eg. him being born in "hell" and climbing out of it himself as a child). Could I at least get a montage of him killin shyt as a teen or something???
But no, let's pull the rug from under Bane's character for this other character that no one cares about.
Other problems:
The pacing of the movie...it should have been two movies. The first half felt rushed as fukk and the whole "Gotham under siege" was underwhelming. Throwing some fake snow on the ground doesn't give the audience a good sense of this being a long, painful occupation.
The 3rd act...I'm not mad with throwing twists and giving the audience what it wants, but it was essentially:
Nolan/studio --->
<---audience
Some parts were cringe-worthy. Had to ask myself how it was coming from the same guy who did Memento and The Prestige.
