I think people’s criticism is that unlike a YouTube video, when the ad ends you get to finish the thought.

Here that doesn’t happen.
There's no thought to finish. TGA isn't special or unique for being a game award show. It's just the most popular and it got that way being the giant commercial it always has been. TGA has never tried to hide what it was either. There are other award shows that aren't trailer fest and few people outside the most hardcore fans are even aware of them.

TGA can't really take the platform it built being that commercial and then try to leverage it into a pure award focus. It would quickly become as irrelevant to the mainstream as those other shows.

Think about it this way, in a year a lot of folks want to say is an all time great year in gaming an awards show spent less time honoring that year than they did promoting other shyt.

There’s plenty of award shows this year, this isn’t their only chance to be honored. Remedy and Larian got a humongous spotlight on them during the TGA’s more than either studio has ever had in the limelight. Its still a goat year for games, considering a turn based CRPG won GOTY.

These developers want recognition from the TGA’s becuase they’re popular, and they’re popular becuase they are filled with Ad’s and commercials.

But that doesn’t separate the fact that the TGA’s were never about the awards. Its the award show everyone watches because its not actually about the awards

None of this is relevant. Stop.

If you want them to be the premiere event then they have to do certain things..

Are the criticisms valid? :sas1:

The numbers show they are the premiere event though…Geoff Keighly can walk on stage and fart in every developers face and people will still watch the TGA’s more than the other game awards because they want to see the game trailers.

Not really because TGA doesn’t make it a secret what it’s about. People are getting upset because water is wet.

TGA made people stand up and take notice of it for being what it still is today and now people want to point at it and shame it for that.

People are wrestling with the fact that they can’t proudly proclaim they don’t care about award shows/tga and also that they get angry when the people that host the awards also don’t care about the awards.

You don’t have to make a new thread complaining when the popular narrative goes against your predictions.

In this case, TGA is a valid E3 replacement.

You don’t have to narrative set everything. Especially something that isn’t important at all. If you enjoyed it why are you mad?
I'm dapping this but strongly disagree with the bolded part.

Its all we got so beggers can't be choosers.

E3 merged the best of our worlds, marketing, networking, hype, massive reveals, awards and just a celebration of games.

Geoff just needs to go ahead and pass the torch or stay behind the scenes, and let other people run a bit more with the show...

He has been rushing people off the stage, having games miscategorized, inviting kojima on stage and having questionable winners in all categories for over half a decade now.

Why not just watch another award show if you don’t like the style of this one? Why does Geoff gotta change the format of the biggest, most successful award show to fit your needs?

And Geoff Keighly doesn’t decide who wins awards. You was in the thread watching it along with everyone else, having a blast.

Yall do the same thing with popular games. You run out and buy them, and then spend the next month criticizing them and acting like you’r above playing them after the fact

It kinda does though. It claims to be one thing but then promotes another part more than 75 percent of the show.

Geoff year around promo's it as "A celebration of games" he even started off this year saying how games are more than art and how important the people that make them are.

The game awards "Is based on a true story" status for me. The story they selling is loosely based on an around certain parts.

It’s all self indulgent bullshyt. everyone knows they only care about the trailers. If Geoff really cared they’d do following

- drop the trash live performances unless it’s Sexy Redd
- drop the irrelevant rewards or put ‘em on a pre show
- ad in Director blurbs when showing the nominees
- tell these overexcited cornball devs to save the goofy shyt for the after party
- see above for celebrities
- after each award drop a trailer
- 1:30 - 2 hours max
