The "Black panther wasn't that good" take is the new movie hipster line that has to be discussed

Is this your King?? *Looks away in shame*

It's not my favourite Marvel movie, but it wasn't bad either. It was fun watching it on IMAX 3D and showed black beauty and regalness to the point where even some weird loser cacs felt threatened by it.

For a black superhero movie at least it was better than Meteor Man.

What you waiting on sir?
I don't fukk with comic book films, in general, and I kind of feel like it'd be a pointless exercise watching it now after all the memes and pop culture references I've seen over the last few years, where it seems like I've already seen it without actually watching it.

I wanted to like that movie...I really did. I mean it's Ultron, he's one of the Avengers most prominent villains

But upon every rewatch it's like

- I don't like this Ultron
- The Twins (fukk Fox for this BS)
- Black Widow being some kind of...I dunno...shock collar for The Hulk

Gahhhh...I try not to think about it. So much that I even forget that shyt sometimes.
If Ultron had been how he was portrayed in the trailers then AOU would have been a top 5 mcu movie easily. He seemed menacing as fukk in the trailers. But in the movie literally every avenger kicked his ass. I couldn't even take him seriously by time the final fight happened.

I think Black Panther is a victim of extreme hype. I saw it twice in theaters with my family, and we all love it. The second time as we left the theater, I knew this movie wouldn’t hold up over time because people (:mjpls:) would nitpick the shyt out of it.
I will say I prefer the Russo’s vision of T’Challa over Coogler’s, the action scenes were lacking but Killmonger’s challenge from an emotional standpoint is damn near perfect.
Also, a lot of people seem to not like MBJ’s Killmonger, and I thought he played it very well. I don’t think he was ever intended to be some super intimidating force, but a bitter and broken man that had never grew past the heartbroken child that found his father dead in their apartment.

First, no diss to @Take It In Blood who made me think of this and a reply by someone else, since you were talking about action scenes, and it was clearly not a hot take, it was an opinion.

But I've heard this a lot in the last year, on the ringerverse podcast Van Lathan stands on this square and I just don't fukkin get it.

How is that movie overrated? It was entertaining, beginning to end...was iconic in both acting performances and what it represented. Had a GOAT villian with bulletproof motives, a legit hero and a heroes journey, 5 star cast, and a good ending. The only reasonable complaint is the sus CGI on the bridge. Other than that it's an absolute classic.

Help me understand how we're now putting Ironman or age of Ultron and shyt above black panther?? It's truly some contrarian shyt to me.

I don't watch marvel movies like that so I can't speak to the quality, or lack thereof of the entire franchise...but I felt MBJ performance dragged that movie down FOR ME. Overall, it's not a classic for me, but again I haven't seen 95% of marvel movies. It seemed like it's on par with the few I've seen.

In the end, it's a black cast that made gobs of money and garnered a positive black image, so I will always support it. If they drop a part 2, I'll be right there to watch/support

Wakanda never felt thought through. It felt lifeless with a bunch of skyscrapers and tribals motifs.

They tried too hard with Killmonger he comes off as an one dimensional villain, his motive for revenge never felt justified. His dad committed treason, got his countrymen killed, sold shyt he wasn’t supposed too and tried to kill the king. Giving guns to nations to fight against the oppressors sounds like a terrible idea which made the ending feel bad. The richest and most technologically advance nation making a community center. :ld:

And trial by combat is one of the most dumbest thing to modernize.

It was cool watching positive black representation on screen and the filmmaking is quality, but I got superhero movie fatigue so it's not one of my favorite movies of all time.

It's top 5 Marvel movie if that counts for anything
