I agree it’s not productive for children to consume that kind of music when a lot of kids in our community don’t have a strong support system to show them it’s all bullshyt but at the end of the day music is music. White Americans are the largest consumers of rap by far and they don’t have the same issues our community has. Violence in our community was worse before rap for the 100th time. So what was the excuse for the crime then? Was it that damn jazz music? The solution isn’t a ban on rap, its education and financial literacy and it’ll take generations to fix because it took generations to get us here.
I'm not suggesting that rap or any music is creating the conditions we have in our communities. I am pointing out that it is anti-Black and should have no place within Black culture.
White people are the largest consumers of an artform that largely centers around the deaths of Black men. Black death is entertaining to them, why is it also entertaining to us when the leading cause of death for Black males between the ages of 1-44 is homicide???
I actually agree with your solution, problem is, there's a reason this anti-Black propaganda exists in the first place and it is to advance the idea that Black people are completely incompatible with western society and that "something" needs to be done about it.
Other groups recognize the power of propaganda, Jewish people for example, won't even tolerate other people saying that they're good with money because it's tied to tropes that have been used to demonize them throughout history. 21 Savage had a lyric that he believed was complimentary to Jewish people and found himself apologizing for it later. This is the same guy that has countless anti-Black songs, even has one titled "my choppa hate n*ggas" but there will be no apologies to the Black community because we have accepted this filth as being normal.
