Even entrepreneurship is not a silver bullet. 65% of businesses fail within 10 years, 48% within 5 years.

The entire video is good but breh breaks down the problem with entrepreneurship being viewed as the path to wealth creation from around 34 minute mark to the 40 minute mark.

I totally agree with the stats, which is formidable from an individuals perspective. And I won't go into why businesses fail, it's usually undercapitalization...

But we're talking about millions of Black men, since desegregation until now.

Moreover, failing at starting a business does not mean you can't ever be an employee ever again. (looks at resume)

If everybody at the Coli started a business, most would fail.
Some would succeed, and there would be a net increase of Black employers, which would undoubtedly help the community.

Seen this BS before.

I hate this dude, him and the rest of Black Bread Tube. Especially the cat always screaming about "Black dollars don't exist". Sociologists should not be speaking on macro-economics.

These folks, FD, Ill Bill, Foreign Man in a Foreign Land along with their right wing counterparts Yvette Carnelle, Tone Talks - want black people to deal with less. They're as bad as Black Preachers promising Heaven after Death....

If I gotta bet on Black people becoming capitalists, or all of white society becoming Socialist/Communist, I know where I'm putting my money.

Cats not working steady, not getting any bread - I have no idea. I see them dudes all the time just doing nothing, living day by day, minute by minute.

But the cats that got 40 hr week/9-5's - They're cool with 20-25 bucks an hour.

Obviously they'd like more, but that would mean
  • Looking for another job
  • Spending time and money to get more skills
And that would basically upset the flow and increase instability.

Cats is comfortable.
Most men making over 60K are grinders and networkers. They don't settle. They have drive.
:myman:
The ones making under that are regular men okay with the money they are offered. Closed mouths don't get fed.

Which is why people need to adapt and evolve to today's world and stop wishing for what we had 70 years ago or someone to save them

I get what you're saying but those times are long gone and aren't coming back. No one is coming to save us
I agree. You can both recognize the reason and adapt. Unfortunately people tend to struggle with both.

When people pine for back in the day and how things were with Big Mama and Pa Pa they do so lacking understanding of the factors that contributed to that.

Men paid all the bills because any able bodied man could go out and get a job that allowed him to do so.

Women took care of the house and put up with cheating and beating because they couldnt even get a bank account in their name.

Thats not realistic for most people in 2024, so yes we need to adapt.

"You could work around that"

Who's "you" in this question?

Us "go getters" that are trying to encourage our brothers, uncles, fathers, and cousins?

Or the brothers that are content?

Most men love stability, they love the status quo.
And if they don't "love" the status quo, they tend to fear change more than a life of relative poverty and monotony.

Women on the other hand, love change. But a chick can change her networth with an MBA or a BBL....

With Black Families - the vast majority of working class black people - both parents worked.

Typical black woman was a maid, nanny, cook, etc.
Typical black man did general labor.

Both were kept out of higher paying professions generally speaking.

For only a handful of Black families, there was that "traditional male breadwinner and stay at home wife"

Took me almost 9 years to get to 60k at my job...I was just waiting my turn for a promotion and one day I decided to ask about it and that's when I got it smh so you right closed mouths don't get fed.

Funny thing is I started at 35k lol and I swear I had more money back then cause my rent wasn't even 600/mo.

I'm in my early 30s though and I know several brothers making a lot more. You even better off if you got someone to split the bills with too.

for 1. the charts says median which is not the same as "average". this is the median which means 50% of men are above that level. which anyone who is breathing would already know this lol

for 2. These are stats from 2020-21.... prime covid years where financial hardship was worldwide? i would throw those years in the bushes doesn't seem like a realistic timeframe for any type of stat.

why not look at stats over a period of time like this one from 2005-2021?

This is true as well. But still a black man with functioning limbs and a HS diploma or not even that back then had a better shot at a gig that could comfortably support a family (4 or 5 people total not 10 kids) than a dude with a masters in most fields today.

Dallas, Texas but living in Houston, Texas
i remember in 2005 i had a government job making $12 an hour, my college teacher found out what i did for work and what i got paid, she made me tell the class and i remember everyone looking at me like :whew: ..crazy...
I remember when I was in boot camp and people asked me what I did for a living before joining the Corps. I was a little older than most of the other recruits. I was going on as reservist so after boot camp, MCT, and my MOS school, when I went back home, I was going to making $15 an hour as a technical representative for sprint. Everyone was looking at me like :banderas::damn::lupe::whew:.

They thought I was a baller. :pachaha:

I decided during the covid pandemic that I'd rather have continuous employment than jumping from job to job in search of higher pay. I saw too many folks get laid off and since my job kept us employed...I'm just going to thug it out for long run. Pay is above average for the area but not high or anything but benefits and pension are worth it. I have a roof over my head and it feeds my daughter and me so can't complain. Just praying I stay employed until I can retire.
I with my current company for 8 years. Went from making 33hr to 55+hr. I'm trying to get back home for good though. I work logistics with no degree, just 20 years experience. I thought I would be working as a Amazon supervisor making 22-25hr.
:beli:
I've been applying hard these last 30 days. I've been offered a few positions and have more interviews. I've been referred to two GS12 jobs as well. I didn't think I was worth more than 80K. I applied anyway to positions I have experience in and have been pleasantly surprised.
:ehh:
My point is, there's positions and stability out there. There is nothing wrong with applying and seeing what they say. Also, try USAjobs as well. The govt mostly only grows, plus you get a little pension. Then, there is some upward mobility. It doesn't hurt to try. Praying and hoping is well. God is good. But, if you put in the hard work and apply, you never know what will happen. You got it.
:salute:

Yeah, I have a hard time believing this. I know collectively black men are on the lower totem pole but this is insane.
No, the numbers are very real. They just aren't livable wages. Google the median incomes of whatever demographic you want and you'll get the results.

Just think about it. In real life, how many people do you know making more than $20/hr? Of course there are many of us doing it, but if you think about just people you personally know, you can use that as a scale to get a rough idea.
