You’re absolutely right, but hey:yeshrug:

That’s what he promoted, knowing majority of the guys in our community aren’t in that category. And men cheered him along when he was basically telling any young woman who “qualifies” for a successful man to go for the $ first.

So, yea.
Bitter coffee huh?

There are a lot of career paths that would be considered “unorthodox” where you can make real $$ and take care of a family. I’ll never disparage anyone who is working, but being a warehouse or fast food worker you aren’t using your full capacity and you don’t need a 4 yr degree to make real $$

Anyone out there looking for a new career path there is an opening to my career, Air Traffic Control, right now

There’s always jobs out there you can provide for your family and not need a 4 yr degree

Why is that though? All of my friends expect maybe 1 make much more than this. We're all black so why some brothers just cool with 22 an hour?

Cats not working steady, not getting any bread - I have no idea. I see them dudes all the time just doing nothing, living day by day, minute by minute.

But the cats that got 40 hr week/9-5's - They're cool with 20-25 bucks an hour.

Obviously they'd like more, but that would mean
  • Looking for another job
  • Spending time and money to get more skills
And that would basically upset the flow and increase instability.

Cats is comfortable.

Money isnt the issue...inflation is. You could raise a family, buy a house, buy a car, and have a little fun on one person's 5000 salary just 70 years ago. shyt I remember on Good Times they had a party because James got a job paying 4400. So to think that less than a century later one person can barely get by on 10x that is just :mindblown:.

Which is why people need to adapt and evolve to today's world and stop wishing for what we had 70 years ago or someone to save them

I get what you're saying but those times are long gone and aren't coming back. No one is coming to save us

I guess this is a valid reason. I feel like you could work around that though.

"You could work around that"

Who's "you" in this question?

Us "go getters" that are trying to encourage our brothers, uncles, fathers, and cousins?

Or the brothers that are content?

Most men love stability, they love the status quo.
And if they don't "love" the status quo, they tend to fear change more than a life of relative poverty and monotony.

Women on the other hand, love change. But a chick can change her networth with an MBA or a BBL....

My bad, that was probably it. Dudes can run it up in the restaurant industry too...
Yeah I wasn't disagreeing at all. Service industry parlays into a lot of nice opportunities. Ive seen a Fridays busser go up to manage the VIP suites at United Center and opened his own restaurant after. Seen a bartender get hired to create the drink menu for a new lounge then got brought on to manage the food and drink menu for all that business groups venues. Opportunity is there for sure.

Then America isn't a first World country. Not everyone can become some Tony Stark IT guru, an engineer, or an accountant. Wages are too low and not enough worker unions.

Thats why I advocate for mass slaughter of real estate tyc00ns.

The problem with a lot of fields - stem/IT/law/banking/medicine etc - is that it's very difficult to start your own thing, because you're usually 1) too specialized, 2) not trained in starting your own thing.

One of my homies has a degree in Aerospace, another one in whatever type of Marine Engineering for Offshore Platforms - there are only a few employers for those types of jobs.

I could go down the line, but for the most part, the vast majority of people with college degrees are under-utilized for their training.

Depending on the next man to feed you and your family...that doesn't even work for white people, much less us.
Even entrepreneurship is not a silver bullet. 65% of businesses fail within 10 years, 48% within 5 years.

The entire video is good but breh breaks down the problem with entrepreneurship being viewed as the path to wealth creation from around 34 minute mark to the 40 minute mark.

I see the play hispanics did in construction. The men come over heresnd sacrifice and take the shyt jobs for low pay, meanwhile they refused to learn English. Why? Because they made their women learn English and since the men didn't know English the company had to hire a staff of bilingual workers in the office to service the field hands who do they hire, the workers wives, sisters, aunts, etc. Boom now they women are on making bread too and they women can look out for them since they in the office and let them know what's going down on the inside. Abuelo/abuela stay at home with the kids, and when the kids get old enough dad done taught their sons everything they need to know about whatever trade they work in by the time they are 18. Start in the trade fresh out of high school and since pops done taught them everything already they move up fast and boom you got your next generation of bilingual field supervisors right there, or they start their own companies after a while. They start making so much money as a family they retire they pops early for making that first sacrifice and putting up with the bullshyt.

Black people should have been took over trucking/shipping in this country... honestly there is still an avenue in construction as well since the demand is so high and immigration isn't keeping up, but someone is gonna have to bite the bullet and sacrifice and nobody seems to want to do it.
You are absolutely right and I can't be mad at it. They practice group economics and sacrifice for future generations. Can't hate it. I work with a guy now who's brother in law is in the grease business. The brother in law's father started in the late 80s early 90s by collecting used oil/grease from restaurants and selling it back to companies for some money. He figured out a way to do the shyt himself and now these dudes are multi-millionaires. Now the BIL own's the company (father retired years back) knows how to run every facet of the business (from welding the tanks that hold the grease, to the extraction process to filtrate it) b/c he came up in it. His sons are about to graduate high school and they already know how weld, which alone gets you big money (cousin is a welder and he brings in some serious money). He's gonna retire in a few years at 55, and give the business to his sons after they graduate college.

I decided during the covid pandemic that I'd rather have continuous employment than jumping from job to job in search of higher pay. I saw too many folks get laid off and since my job kept us employed...I'm just going to thug it out for long run. Pay is above average for the area but not high or anything but benefits and pension are worth it. I have a roof over my head and it feeds my daughter and me so can't complain. Just praying I stay employed until I can retire.

Railroad conductors get PAID. I had a buddy who was an engineer. No degree. They are unionized. Straight blue collar.
:patrice:
When you top out, you are hitting that Longshoremen money. 180-225K.
:gladbron:
The work is hard. It's four on two off always on call, sleeping on rail carts at times type work.
:beli:
It's wild because I've never heard of the type of work, then within a year spoke to two guys who did it.

All this not to mention child support. Some men dont want to make more because they know they baby mamas will just take some of the extra they gain,so whats the point:francis:

I think im in the last boat. I could make a move, but it would probably start out being a lateral move. And its just too many politics involved, other jobs may not have the same security if you turn out to not be good at it. Id rather just get a second job if i felt i needed one.
