When you watch Unsung it's almost amazing that nearly every 80's artist fell off directly because of the impact of gangsta rap and more specifically The Chronic had all the labels and fans wanting hardcore music.

R&B artists like Jodeci & R. Kelly went from New Jack Swing to a "gangsta" image with g-funk samples.

DRS came out in 1993 with "Gangsta Lean" and were the first to really cuss like gangsta rappers as an R&B group.

They even had a song about them straight up committing rape:merchant:

It's 1994 but it's hilarious that Ready For The World lead singer Melvin Riley went from jheri curls to gangsta

The drs shyt :dead:

These songs sound like parodies

It's kinda funny how on Fresh Prince you can see the transition from season 2 (91/92) to season 3 (92/93) where Will was still wearing goofy colorful late 80s shyt season 2, then the season 3 premiere he comes back blasting Das EFX and wearing a baggy ass jumpsuit and dreads :russ:
Uncle Phil was bout to kill his ass:russ:

Look for Jackers album called "Down 4 Life" in 96. DRS renamed themselves and it was more "gangsta" than the 93 album.

That Run DMC shyt Is Straight Embarrassing What A Joke

This Is My First Time Seeing That Fresh Prince shyt Good Lord lol

It Was An Era Where Hip Hop Went From Fun To Angry And You Either Change Or Get Left Behind

That Fresh Prince shyt was an abomination and TV/movies high key saved his ass.

When Hammer came out with The Funky Headhunter, I was fukkin with it tho :ehh:
He simply botched the whole shyt with that Pumps and a Bump video

But that switch up by Run DMC was ridiculous. Those brehs were already getting old and nothing was going to top “Walk this Way” when it comes to their crossover success.

Crazy thing is, in 1993, all 3 were 28, 29, and 31 :pachaha:to put things in perspective, Drake, Future, and 2Chainz are 32, 35, and 41
