It was a loose flashback. Of course it was conveyed in a manner early on that confused viewers...myself included.

One of the lessons of the show... be careful who you let teach your kids Protect the minds of the youth

It should be as is...story done.

Im not sure bout the storyline, but more than likely they already had wayward pines already set up.

Just capturing peeps in the past already picked out and putting them in stasis.

Everyone does the big sleep.

Dr. Jenkings wakes people up, everyone has a role to play.

Peeps that got "captured" had a accident and woke up days/weeks later.

Did the doctors re-wound the people they woke as to make it seem like the accident was current?

Yet his wife in the past goes to look for him because he's missing, not only that..stops at a convenience store. When his wife mentions Wayward pines..people get all in the store...cept the clerk

Then gets pulled over by Pope...

The show played with chronology a bit which led to things seeming more confusing than they actually were.
Terrence Howard was snatching people up in the past (grabbed Kate first then Ethan because he was investigating her disappearance and then scooped up Ethan's wife and kid afterwards) and those scenes were interspersed with the scenes in the future that were the "current" events going on in Wayward Pines.
