Job hoppers made massive gains in the last couple years. Don't confuse people who ditch jobs within a couple months to strategic hoppers. There's a purpose.

A lot of them are building start ups with other laid off workers.

The peak of the job-hopping era was wild. Somebody told me the CTO of Chevron (it could have been G&E) came in, worked for a little and job-hopped on their company :mjlol:

Edit: It could have been Chief Scientist or whatever as well, I know it was an executive-level position and well-known company in the energy industry.

What type of nonsense is this? :mjtf:

"Hotel desks" are starting to be pretty common. Company gets to essentially double their desk space, while seemingly compromising with the employee by still having them work remote for part of their schedule. It's some ol' bullshyt.

My employer tried pulling that move, and it largely backfired.

In an internal document seen by CNBC, Google has asked staff to alternate the days they come in, Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays, in order for one desk to be shared between multiple people. Members of staff are invited to come into the office on unassigned days, but they will be asked to sit in an “overflow drop-in space.”

“Google is going further than just asking staff to share—bosses want to play matchmaker too. Instead of forcing people who don’t like the same setups to meet in the middle, they’re pairing people up as “desk partners.” The document explains: “Through the matching process, they will agree on a basic desk setup and establish norms with their desk partner and teams to ensure a positive experience in the new shared environment”

Treating Googlers like kindergarten 😭

Reddit nailed it, the RTO mandate isn’t necessarily about CEO’s wanting face time. It’s about tax breaks for the company and the building occupancy they agreed to pre-pandemic since the city benefits from bodies being in offices which is why they give out tax breaks (since the money is recouped in a bunch of other places).

Take those tax breaks away and it eats heavily into profits.
