Yeah they always come with marvel comments and just happen to have some product coming out :russ:

right?!:pachaha:

this seems like such a easy lay up at trying to get some attention for that book he's written

he's become the "old man" in the club now and the same way he use to woo people with his movies, Marvel has now been doing and he can't stand it. :lolbron:

so what does he do? throw a few jabs at Marvel because he's not getting as much attention as he wants like Marvel is.:mjlol:

Great analogy on hyper realism, stupid motherfukkers go to a museum and think thats the end all be all
I cannot stand hyper realism. Spend 80 hrs to complete something a camera can don in seconds. Yay!!! Great skill its required but you arent making art. You literally copying.

He is right....another example is Mark Hamill. Luke Skywalker is the star not him. Its hard to make movie stars out of comic book characters, especially nowadays.

But a great portrayl can make or break the franchise(Henry Cavil:martin:)
First I don't think MoS broke the franchise, it was a decent start to their universe.

Second, Henry cavil as superman kinda proves his point. The issues with MoS was due to how superman was written, not the actor playing superman.

Another example would be amazing spiderman where Andrew played arguably the best portrayal of spiderman, but the only thing people can remember about those movies is how trash they were. It's like Garfield's acting job had no impact on the reception of those movies.

i wonder how much of this uproar from Quentin is because he's got a new book out that he's written and he's just trying to muster up some attention for that. :patrice:

I'm sure he is getting asked these questions rather than just giving takes for the sake of selling books

Every director who is seen as an auteur gets asked about Marvel/comic book movies now a days knowing is gets these comic fans all bothered

Maybe so, but it doesn't change the fact he's got a book out that's he's just written and he's doing promotion for that.

There's not a studio in existence that would pass up the chance for a fully fleshed-out story/universe that the public is already familiar with and loves to cult levels. He and a lot of people like him are hating having to compete. Nobody's interested in a Djangoverse. He's right in that it overshadows individual stories and not everything has to be a shared universe with sequels to squeeze out like clockwork...but this is Marvel. It's an idea factory, they literally called themselves the House of Ideas at one point.

Trying to belittle that won't make him and his dreck any more appealing.

Easy way to illustrate what Tarantino is saying about these MCU stars not being movie stars is to look at how many times they, as the lead of a film, have grossed $100 million or more at the box office, OUTSIDE the MCU. And compare it to...well, real movie stars of the past.

Movie Star - Brad Pitt

32 films with 100Ms at the worldwide box office. And all of the films that are 15-20 years old would have higher worldwide box office numbers adjusted for 2022 inflation. For instance, Troy's $484 million in 2004 would be $763 million today. 12 Monkeys would be $330 million today.

MCU Star - Chris Evans

14 films with 100Ms or more....but 9 of them are MCU. 2 other are also super hero flicks. 1 was animated Disney, and the other was a cameo where he appeared as a MCU character (Free Guy).

So you can legitimately argue that Chris Evans, as a lead outside the MCU or Disney machine, has only one film to his name that grossed 100M worldwide, the ensemble flick Knives Out. Of course you can do the inflation for his earlier films, but the picture should still be clear.

Movie Star - Julia Roberts

24 films that hit $100 million or more at the box office. She wasn't the billed lead in all, but she was in most.

MCU star - Brie Larson

6 films that hit 100Ms, but zero of them are non-MCU films where she was billed as the lead.

I chose Chris Evans and Brie Larson specifically because they have billion dollar solo movies to their name in the MCU. Yet outside of that, they aren't really stars at the box office. People would go see "a Julia Roberts movie." No one is checking for "a Brie Larson movie."

It proves QT right about where Hollywood is atm, and will continue to go in the future.
