:hubie:I'm putting 90's era of cinema over 80's

waaaaayyy too many classics, sleeper hits, acclaimed flicks

The 90s were basically an extension of the 80s with mostly better graphics and gameplay. We saw the independent film makers make their marks but it was a similar decade of films just more grand and expensive.

come to think about it. there's more classic movies from the 90s and early 00s than there are from the 80s:jbhmm:

the 80s are kind of dated. even comparing the hip hop and r&b

Why did i come back in here? The slander in some of these comments :picard:

Pretend like Hollywood hasn't been trying to make reboots of 80s films & shows or using music of that era due to their status as hits & cult classics

NYC black coffee tough guys aka the Stoozy Boys
Blade Runner...probably the most unlikeable lead in history, doesn't get the girl, loses his gun and the bad guy lets him live...nothing PC about any of that.

Terminator, Beetlejuice (a very fukked up story on closer inspection, etc. Old man Tarantino showing. There was always likeable characters, but plenty of non pc movies as well.

Its not that cut and dry though. The 80s was the heyday of rogue antihero cops who broke all kinds of laws to catch the bad guy. The lovable losers meme also took off in the 80s; e.g. Revenge of the Nerds or Stripes where it wasnt the disciplined, Dudley Doright you rooted for.
Sounds like the rise of current American policing/gun love. :mjpls:

Kind of agree. 70's movies have this gritty rawness that the 80s lacked. 70s was right after Vietnam and I think the movies reflected the disillusionment a lot of Americans had with their country and they were much more morally ambiguous with more anti-heroes. The 80s was during the Reagan era so the movies were simplified a bit more with clear cut good and evil. Plus you had your anti-communism propaganda films. Just look at the original Rocky vs. Rocky IV to see the clear difference between 70s and 80s cinema. Of course you had your exceptions but for the most part, I agree with QT
Look at First Blood compared to the other Rambo movies.

Because they were not deep popcorn flicks that made money and didn’t challenge you.
