Compared to the 70's yes. Well, not the early 80's films, because those were holdovers, but from about 83 on...the entire tone shifted. I think he's implying easily digestible...which is what 80's films are mostly known for. The 80s also had more gloss to them, and probably more of a cartoonish nature.

Yeah most early decade stuff are still products of the previous decade - I'd say the 90s were the lone exception because in 1991 society abruptly threw the 80s in the bushes :russ:
I've heard people say the 80's ended in like 88/89 when Bush was inaugurated
