First movie is much more in line with the 70s. The look, the character dynamics, the subject matter. Compared to part 2 which is firmly bathed in Reagan era politics and action movies of that era

i get what's he sayin. The 80's leaned heavy into Spielberg and the Spielberg knock offs and had a lot of safe comedies and these were all pushed by Hollywood execs and saw the birth of the Summer Blockbuster.

Compared to the 70's yes. Well, not the early 80's films, because those were holdovers, but from about 83 on...the entire tone shifted. I think he's implying easily digestible...which is what 80's films are mostly known for. The 80s also had more gloss to them, and probably more of a cartoonish nature.

Yeah most early decade stuff are still products of the previous decade - I'd say the 90s were the lone exception because in 1991 society abruptly threw the 80s in the bushes
