The major issue with ad-placement, depending on how it works out is the licensing. If Burger King is going to be a permanent fixture in a call of duty level, what happens when the marketing on it runs out, they pull that version of the game or just start removing entire sections?

Sponsored content is also more picky about how they’re depicted in media also. Burger doesn’t want you defacing or making a mockery of their brand or food in video games, so wacky burger in GTA can have funny mock ads on the radio and stuff, Burger King would just be a straight up commercial playing in your game cars radio station.
thats a good point, can't argue with that.

all these industries are changing, whether they like it or not

music is already mostly 'day one' on subscription services

no one's really buying movies anymore. they go to the theater, or wait for it to come to a subscription service. and the wait really ain't that long anymore. I would go so far as to say that going to the theater is no longer "mainstream"

and music/record companies aren't making nearly the bread they used to.

the issue isn't the sub service itself, it's the day 1 shyt for blg budget films.

shyt changes :yeshrug:

I been around the sun a few times, and I remember how it used to be. a lot of things are different now, some for the worst, but overall I feel like it's better for me as a consumer

as a consumer I get it, but companies aren't going to continue to let shyt go when it's not being as profitable as they want. Cost gonna get passed on. As more and more AAA games come out on GP, the price will go up. shyt, they pretty much already telling you. Only way to minimize the price increases if they want to continue to put their big budget games on GP is to grow GP on non Xbox platforms. That means more PC GP subs, non pc/console traditional boxes, and ultimately their competitor's platforms (Sony and Nintendo). They trying to be the Netflix of VideoGames so the endgame is getting GP on Playstation and Nintendo.

If not, the price will continue to rise to offset the costs.

The budget is too high on these joints.

Even when movies on the old model hitting cable TV months to a year after being in theaters, cable is technically a subscription service too. Some joints make sense to go the sub route, but the big budget joints being on there day 1 isn't smart. Get all the retail sales first then when the sales drop off, put it on a sub service.

We not even talkin yet about how these sub services prices continue to rise....
The prices for the subs are going to adjust. They'll have to. I forget what actor it was but it may have been a couple of months ago and he was explaining why most movies aren't even made any more. Certain types of genres. I wanna say it was Matt Damon. Essentially it's just cost prohibitive because people just won't go see them. But those movies could be made if you bring them to a subscription service. I don't think the industry can sustain itself if it can ONLY rely on the 2 or 3 Marvel movies and their equivalent each year. Theaters would need a more well rounded catalogue, but if people don't go to the theater, then what do you do? Eventually there will be enough movies that hit subscription services, and you find a balance with content, price, and the number of services, where the industry can make profit. The only holdouts at that point is the big blockbuster. At that point they'll have no choice.

I can't find the article at the moment, but there was a major director, like Spielberg or someone talking about how the future of the theater will be far different than what it is today. Where there are far fewer movies shown, and those that do get shown will be more of a big event. Almost like a theme park experience. Who knows if it will turn out exactly that way, but if people like that see it coming, then it's probably coming.

Ehhh. People are still going to see movies. Streaming really just killed the theatrical window for mid to low tier movies that weren't going to make a ton of money anyway, really. And streaming works for the music industry because the distributors realized it was an easy way for them to essentially get paid in advance for music that they haven't even released yet, and change the payment terms for artists.

Gaming is different since development costs are way higher, and studios can't survive a flop the same way directors, actors, artists, and movie distributors can. So, unless development costs drastically reduce, it won't be financially feasible for everyone to go the subscription route.
