I don't even need hard data to know that programs like Social Security have kept many older black ppl that I know personally afloat instead of on the brink of starvation or homeless. No they aren't exactly thriving, but that's just one example of a social program that benefits everyone.

Black people need more programs and more funding to deal with the consequences of Jim Crow and its Northern variant not to mention slavery and our current woes regarding over-policing, housing discrimination, and income inequality.

For every 1 dollar of white wealth, black people have 10 cents. Broad, generalized policies have no impact on this racial disparity. Black poverty is different from white poverty.

Right wing strategy in the US has always been predicated on race politics for the sole purpose of staying wealthy

Making whites feel threatened by blacks for their jobs, women etc etc

If you can solve the class issue, you can blunt much of the bullshyt static of right wing race politics

The race issue shouldn't wait. We've waited for nearly 400 years.

The argument is that the lowest whites need to feel superior to something precisely because they have been given the economic short shrift. Virulent racism is a poor man's ideology.

Whenever they had their economic condition boosted.. that didn't change their superiority feeling :manny:

When the New Deal lifted incomes in the South, we didn't seen an eradication of white supremacy although Southern Whites gained electricity and clean running water. Moreover, they tried to prevent it from reaching black homes and hands.

I know that, but there is no way to solve it unless you elevate the class of everyone and ensure a good education for every american child

Thats where it starts, education

Thought experiment: Sanders wins. All Republicans in Congress die of massive heart attacks. Socialism in terms of healthcare and education is achieved.

Voila!

Studies are done and 20 years after their enactment, there's still a large disparity between blacks and whites.

What then?

"Who is going to give us the biggest crumbs" is sadly the only realistic position we can take in America and tbh globally as long as Western hegemony reigns.

some sad shyt... but you won't hear any disagreement outta me about it. :wow:

Now can you see why I believe in IT happening. IT needs to... because it's the only thing that's gonna get our people outta this mess.

Exactly. White people had no problem putting race before class for tons of handouts to white people, but somehow asking for us to get what was stolen from us is "utterly ridiculous".

:francis: Yeah, I'm not necessarily a believer. Although I can see the argument in theory, and it is telling that the poorest people are generally the ones that latch onto racist beliefs so tightly. It is all they have. "I may not be able to keep the lights on, but at least i'm not a ******". There's no similar social pressure for the wealthy. They just have to rely on pure belief.

Also an important distinction is between the noveau riche and the old money. The former have more likely been exposed to this racist ideology in their formative years.

As long as we solve the problems that we can solve in our own communities, there will be no such large disparity if a socialist agenda came to fruition.

If it did, it means that socialism failed and we are heading to a marxist revolution

Nowhere
America has adopted conditions in the past to ameliorate conditions, but either those services were denied to black people or have failed black people. Why should I believe differently given the track record? re: the New Deal

Given the disparity in wealth, income, socio-economic outcomes between blacks and whites there HAS to be targeted programs to help black people. Socialism for Sanders is not the socialism we need.

the track record is bad but circumstances have changed a lot since the New Deal era and Post WWII, where even black people had equal economic growth.

i don't see how free public education, increased minimum wage, single payer healthcare can fail us :jbhmm:

these programs target black people. like dude said above for many elderly blacks social security is literally the ONLY thing keeping them out of poverty

what programs do you have in mind for JUST us and what do you think the level of support will be? :jbhmm:

Bernie Sanders and the Liberal Imagination

Last week I critiqued Bernie Sanders for dismissing reparations specifically, and for offering up a series of moderate anti-racist solutions, in general. Some felt it was unfair to single out Sanders given that, on reparations, Sanders’s chief opponent Hillary Clinton holds the same position. This argument proposes that we abandon the convention of judging our candidates by their chosen name:

Youth unemployment for African American kids is 51 percent. We have more people in jail than any other country. So yes, count me as a radical. I want to invest in jobs and education for our young people rather than jails and incarceration..

DAP AND REP THIS if you said FUcc all them CACS :troll::russ::blessed::obama::myman:
