Slightly misleading title as WB was expecting a 30 million opening (similar to Jungle Cruise’s 34m) due to the covid situation, so 26 million is more underwhelming than a flat out bomb.

Nevertheless, it’s a shame because it’s a dope movie and p4p one of the better/best comic book movies in recent memory; not to mention Idris got the lead role and killed it, but now who knows the state of the franchise.

Just goes to show you the importance of timing: this should’ve been the first SS movie 5 years ago; and with the initial DCEU roll out and hype train, it’d have cleared a billy (first one was trash and still did 700m+). Now it’s stuck battling COVID and whatever past reservations from it’s predecessor.

If I had the Juelz Santana gif, I would use it. The budget for production including marketing was close to 200M. Along with international markets, they didn't come close to recouping half of that.

In before people blame streaming :lolbron:
The people have spoken

The day and date streaming is here to stay. I’m willing to even pay $20-$30 for these movies at home.

i don’t know why people think it’s going. Convenience is king. This is the natural way of the media business, streaming is here to stay. Movies will only be big blockbusters and luxury status (full meals, cocktails, limited seating, etc)

let me put it to you like this. The $14.99 withdraws from my account monthly and i don't notice. The HBO catalogue is deep as fucc. To me it's basically free..

it's not like Disney or universal that are charging $30 per movie and you also gotta have an account on top of that.

It's baked into your cable bill depending on your service, so depending on your carrier, you're paying for it. It's not free.

Sooo many factors hurt this film.

One factor people aren't discussing is the name of the film. Casual fans don't know the difference between "Suicide Squad" and "The Suicide Squad" Your point is to distance yourself from the shytty first movie, not package it like a re-release or a directors cut.

Rated R, generally gonna do less regardless.

Pandemic obviously still hurting theaters.

HBO max is free. At least disney plus charged an extra $30. with disneys model i figured might as well spend that money in a nice theater than at home.

Characters, One of the big selling points in the first. Was the Joker Footage and Will Smith. Margot Robbie was a breakout star after the fact, not the selling point. Birds of prey should've been proof enough of this and Idris Elba while a great Actor, has always struggled to fill seats himself. He slowly falling off from the Denzel roles into the forest whitter support roles. Sad to see.

Lack of Tie in, The MCU big selling point is the interconnectivity of all the projects. Each film feels like a must see or else you 'll miss something important to later films. The first suicide squad was supposed to tie into the rest of DCEU and had cameos from Batman and Flash. This one was advertised as being a stand alone soft reboot. why? :snoop: just means you don't feel any need to see it if you like Wonder Woman or Aquaman etc

take all 6 of those factors together and you got flop

Breh this is the best time ever to go to the movies. I've been going since they opened up here last summer. There's never more than 4 other people in the theater no matter what it is. Reserved seating. Buffer seats. Sanitizer and wipes everywhere. No obnoxious moviegoers . No people talking or on their phone :blessed:

I saw a movie yesterday there were 2 others. And 1 walked out halfway through.

Pretty much every movie I’ve seen since theaters reopened has been like having my own private theater. The only movie that had more than five people was Jungle Cruise.
