"Stray Bullet" by Organized Konfusion came out 2 years before "I Gave You Power" so that's a terrible example if you are arguing who is more creative because then I can argue that Nas was just influenced by Organized Konfusion when he made "I Gave You Power"
i am a huge nasir stan to the point where i photoshop jay-z as a camel on his album art. but i think stray bullet is a better song

i felt bad saying that lol

im sorry nas

I still feel like Jay would've still been Jay anyway. He was never THE top guy during his run to begin with, even in his own city most of the time. In the shadow of DMX he got a big hit off the Rush Hour soundtrack that finally broke him through...in fact I would argue that Jay would've popped SOONER had Biggie still been around and maybe Ma$e loses a little shine. Hes less of a priority for Bad Boy with Biggie still around while Jay has the Def Jam machine that was getting everybody and their grandma plaques in the late 90s AND is Biggie's mans

Biggie still being a live probably hurts Pun too. Pun and X both benefitted from there being a void of the two nikkas with a similar image
I think Pun would've been even bigger if HE stayed alive. Latino MCs ain't really pop off like that until well after he was gone and never hit those same heights besides maybe a Bad Bunny type cat. Pun is super underrated for what he did for his lane.

BIG died when he was 24 so its all speculation but i could imagine BIG at 50 putting together a grown man rap album, too. BIG could get seriously cerebral. but sadly were just bullshytting in this thread. BIG was one of a kind and he'll never be back.
I agree. I'm just going by all the art that is available to us. That's why I said what I said. Big had major potential, there's no denying that.

Bad take

Biggie beat jay on all the other intangibles

But lyrically jay was nicer than big. Not by a whole lot but a little bit in RD era. Big was also approaching peak by the time jay did as well tho. Big was also funnier, had better presence, and was a way better storyteller.

as well as most of the other things people have stated.

Facts but even then I gotta admit, Jay was never beneath BIG at anything... for Notorious Thugs you could go with Jigga What? And fr fr Hov killed that fast flow harder imo.. player shyt like Get Money? OK Jay has Who You Wit, Imaginary Player... Suicidal Thoughts? Hov has D'Evils.. I could go on

I was a huge Jay stan before but I gradually listened less and less, that debate with you got me back on point and I really would be fukking lying if I came on here and kept acting like Jay-Z isnt super elite, shyt is corny to downplay dude. Appreciate being able to discuss hip-hop lyricism with other heads like this still :salute:

Also Styles lowkey a hating ass nikka :mjlol:
I know in his heart of hearts he probably feels like him and Kiss >>> Jay-Z
They are :skip:

I think Jay & Nas are a little better than Big lyrically but he's the better artist then both. Big could do everything they could do but Jay & Nas couldn't do everything Big could do
Big could not get as conceptual as nas

He'd never have a song like rewind or fetus

Most of his shyt was about partying, fukking, selling dope, and killing nikkas :manny:

Definitely don't agree with you bro. If Big made: Nikkas Bleed/Suicidal Thoughts/Somebody's Got To Die/My Downfall/You're Nobody......which are all phenomenal records that you can make a movie to because they're so vivid, why wouldn't you think he could make a record like those at a high level? To me, I have no doubt he could just because of how nice he was when he was alive

To be fair, so was most rappers shhit when they were under 24, which is when Big passed. We never got to see him mature...you never know what he coulda blossomed (or deteriorated) into musically and conceptually and all that, boy was just a young man when they took him.

Nas been nas since live at the bbq :manny:

Big would've gotten even better but he wasn't gonna turn into a completely different kind of rapper and start talking about life from the perspective of a penny or some shyt :russ:

And nothing necessarily wrong with that cause he could've continued and evolved on the cinematic storytelling from life after death in all sorts of directions

I would be curious what type of album he'd go for without puff's influence in particular

No unnecessary talking on the track appreciation :ahh:
