It's all about personal preference, so there are no right or wrong answers.

But Austin has to be among the contenders for the title of GOAT on anyone's list. Best draw and best merch seller during the era of best business.

No he doesn't have to be considered for title of the GOAT and these are the reasons why. 1.) The attitude era was NOT the best business for WWF late 80's was. 2.) Austin was NOT the best draw during the attitude era The Rock was the numbers don't lie. Merch selling has NOTHING to do with who's the GOAT wrestler. 4.) Austin only had 3 great years to be the GOAT you need longevity like Hogan, Macho Man and Flair they all had better CAREERS then Austin. 5.) To be the GOAT you need to be a GOAT face and HEEL like Macho Man, Hogan and The Rock were. Austin was not a GOAT heel

Stunning Steve was good but people overrate his WCW days based on what he became

While I don't agree with the premise of this thread, I can't necessarily say that I don't agree with the above statement although Austin/Steamboat was a PERFECT wrestling match.

Austin's heel work is what basically gave them the platform to turn him face and run with it, go watch some of those promos when he was calling out Bret, you can't tell me he wasn't believable (a MUST for a heel) , I was almost worried dude was going to legit beat the shyt outta Bret

Steve was doing everything a great heel is supposed to do from late summer 96 until the double switch at mania. Lets not even go back beyond that even though Austin was damn good in WCW, they had imbeciles booking the show then we all know that. He was already more or less Stone Cold in his brief time in ECW, just without the name, the wit and intensity was there.

I'm not sure who I'd say the GOAT is, in wrestling its tough to say because of the variables but someone listing Steve as the goat isn't some ridiculous statement. I'm all for cats expressing their opinions but damn.

Longevity is a seriously overatted attribute to judging greatness, when you consider there's a LOT of cats who had 20 plus year careers and lived off nostalgia and name and not in ring merit and innovative mic work through over half of it.

After reading the other Austin threads this needed it's own thread. Some of you really think Austin is the GOAT? :skip:

To be the GOAT you need longevity, Austin was great for 3 years from 97-99. How can you be the GOAT when your elite for only 3 years? People think the attitude era was the most popular the WWF was which is wrong. The WWF was the most popular in the late 80's, Austin is nowhere near the draw Hogan was. Everything that Austin did in and out of the ring The Rock did it better. The Rock was a bigger draw then Austin in the Attitude era and the numbers don't lie. If it wasn't for The Rock the WWF may have not even beaten WCW in the Monday Night Wars. Austin is jealous of The Rock because of this and even Howard Stern called him out on it during an interview a few years ago.

To be the GOAT you also have to be one of the best heels ever and best faces ever and Austin fails in this category again. Guys Like Macho Man, The Rock, Hogan, HBK all could be the most loved and most hated at a snap of a finger that makes them one of the best. Austin is one of the best faces ever but he's not one of the best heels.

Austin had an epic 3 year run maybe the best run ever but guys like Macho Man, Hogan, the Rock, HBK, Flair had better careers. A lot of people overrate Austin due to nostalgia of them being teens during the Attitude Era which Austin was the "leader" of. Austin also took his ball and went home because he didn't wanna put someone over that's not something the GOAT would do.
