Budget reconciliation is a longer process than usual bill passage, and that process isn't going to resume until after Trump's trial in the Senate is over. The delay is pretty much locked in because of that since Republicans would have used the filibuster to block it as a regular bill.

IMO, Senate leadership is using this time to see if the bill would pass through regular channels if some small changes are made. Republicans probably won't compromise since they don't like the overall size of the bill, so it's not a big deal if that fails. If 10 Republican Senators came over to supporting it, it could pass quicker than using budget reconciliation (which could then be saved to pass some other legislation Republicans won't support at all).

Y'all could have 0k checks like the rest tof us :ehh:
The feigned concern over 50k being the cap while dismissing those who were over the 75k cap in high COL areas that needed help is hilarious.

nikkas gotta stop acting like they care about aid and just be honest about wanting a check

Would this have the votes? Certainly not in the Senate. So then it comes down to reconciliation where we are already at with a less aggressive approach. But somehow it's the Democrats who are to blame.. explain that. The majority is by the slimmest of margins and you have two dinos who are wavering, meanwhile they are trying to pass this to get the money out to those who need it the most.

What should have been done differently?
The first bill last spring should’ve never introduced a 75k phase out. They left people in coastal states out to dry. Back then they had leverage as the pandemic was “new” and people expected the economy to tank for everyone. Now this artificially low cap seems to be applied to everything going forward. A more realistic cap would be 200k/400k

Now they talking about 3000 per child tax credit but with the same phase out bullshyt.

I aint gonna lie, they about to lose me as a voter if they keep with this phase out crap on every fukking thing. So because i dont live in middle of nowhere Alabama and get a higher salary that means i dont deserve any type of stimulus?

so because you’re fortunate enough to make more than most Americans no one should get relief if you can’t qualify?

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Real talk, these stimulus checks are a waste of money at this point.

The purpose of these stimulus checks was to pay people to stay at home.

:francis:Most people didn’t.

Unemployment took care of people who lost their jobs, but those same people didn’t stay home and they contributed to the massive spread of Covid-19.

Now that a year has passed, because people didn’t stay home and states did whatever they wanted, they made a bad situation worse and the whole purpose of stimulus has been lost/forgotten.

People still can't pay their bills and are working less . These checks aren't a waste of money.

:jbhmm: i think the threshold should be a little higher but even in CT where the taxes are a fukking joke, most people making over $100k are living very well outside of the gold coast and have plenty of money saved, in places in the midwest like Missouri I know for a fact that if you are making that you are living very well.. the cost of living is so dramatically different all over the country. Nobody outside of CA is paying those kind of "coastal taxes" yall are on some crazy shyt out there :russ:

NY, MA, CA, CT, Seattle, Honolulu, NJ, DC - 75K-100k is not living lavish, especially something based on 2019 income which wouldn't take into account someone losing a job, their business being closed, etc. And it's hilarious how somehow on the coli yall can sit here and say what someone has or should have saved when actual studies show regardless of income most americans don't have enough saved and are a check or two away form a financial crisis

the cost of living isn't the same across the entire state, that's what I'm saying. Everyone in CT is fukked by taxes but housing is vastly different dependent on whether you live southwest or other.. I agree with the phasing out starting too early but there was always going to be phasing in any bill.
