This idea that the Blueprint is far superior to Stillmatic is something the media created years after the two were released. They're both classics, but at the time, Stillmatic was better and still is now.

Jay got numerous classic songs on Blueprint and the production and cohesiveness is on point. Stillmatic has numerous classic songs with a couple of missteps.

The classic songs on Stillmatic are stronger overall, but the strength of Blueprint as an overall body of work is stronger.

With that said, I listen to Stillmatic more so...

I know it's cool to throw out the "Nas stans" phrase as The Booth frequently pretends it's overrun with them (usually as a jealousy tactic to shill for shyttier rappers from other coasts) even though there's tons of evidence to the contrary, but a) The Blueprint isn't 10x better. It just isn't. It's barely better. and b) the poll is close and rightfully so. If this poll was way to the side of Nas, then you might have a point about stannery.
Point is, it shouldn’t be close at all. Put the blueprint up with Nas’ elite albums, not Stillmatic my G.

Like? Is this really a 10+ page thread?

American Gangster vs Stillmatic is maybe a better debate.

Not the Blueprint :hhh:

Exactly. Blueprint vs IWW/Illmatic is the only thread worth discussing. Any other album doesn't have a chance.

Great post.

Only difference is I listen to Blueprint more, but because I'm a production nerd.

If I want to hear the better raps I'd listen to Stillmatic also.

The thing that made Stillmatic so amazing at the time also was that Nas had been written off. No one was expecting him to even drop an album in 2001. Not until later in the year.

I remember exactly where I was when I first heard Stillmatic, and as soon as I heard that epic intro and the "blood of a slave...heart of a king." I knew we were in for a hell of an album.

:wow:

To be fair to Blueprint, I remember where I was when I first heard that album also, but I was expecting that to be dope. Not all of us were expecting Nas to drop such an amazing album that year.

EDIT: Stillmatic is also one of the last albums to truly be worth being a sequel album

AG wayy better my dude
I agree. It’s amazing, but it’s a little closer than The Blueprint in Comparison to Stillmatic.

This is a silly thread.

Take a top 2 album from Hov and compare it to a one of Nas’ decent works, I don’t even consider Stillmatic a top 4 Nas album. Which makes this thread insulting. To both artists.

Blueprint is a dope album with a very cohesive sound, but Stillmatic has the better songs so it is the one I go back to more.

And there are plenty of dope albums with soulful beats, so if I want to hear that sound I'll more likely bump Supreme Clientele, early Kanye or sometimes dipset or even other Jay albums, but I don't think there is another album that sounds like Stillmatic. When I'm in the mood for Stillmatic it's the only album that I can listen to to satisfy that mood.

Both albums brought innovations to the game, both dropped at the same time, both had shots towards each other. Blueprint solidified Jay's name in the game and helped launch Kanye's career, and Stillmatic revitalized Nas' career.

This ends right here, right now.
