It was a REALLY good "movie ride", but there's not enough there for it to become a "classic" in an of itself. Everything great about it was based on how you feel about something that you have seen before. And that's fine if your goal is to have a great time at the movies, but there's nothing from THIS movie that will make anyone from 10 years from now and say "remember this great quote/scene?".
My favorite scene was when
when on his rampage. But looking back at it two days later, the movie "Cabin in the Woods" did a much much better version of that particular concept (right down to the "evil corporate drone" character giving a surprised reaction to the absurdity of the monster killing him) , and they did it without using any licensed characters, just using their own knock-offs.Chucky
It's silly to call it a "classic" in GENERAL because the movie just came out. Time will tell if it is a CLASSIC. Jurassic Park was equally a thrill ride for the sake of thrill rides and it's sparked a franchise. You're too judgemental over a film that purely about enjoying yourself. You cannot claim it a classic off the rip. Let the movie cook and allow time to tell if it would. I wouldn't of thought a film like "Catch Me If You Can" end up being a classic... but it turned out to be some of people's all-time favorites by Spielberg.
