The only similarity is the sandy setting but even that's a stretch. White Sand doesn't even take place on Earth. That entire planet has a fukked up day/night cycle. Its borderline unlivable.
How is the day/night cycle in that book?

Half the planet is covered in perpetual day, the other is night. The day side is mostly desert filled with sand creatures and the sand itself is magically....thise who manipulate do so at the expense of their internal water supply. Its a very easy place to die outside of the cities. Night is illuminated by glowing plants and the humans are easily blinded by the light. And the world was put the way, on purpose.
