Let's not forget the original plot for The Force Awakens.

The First Order and The Resistance were fighting for "map to Luke Skywalker". how do you even have a map to someone that could be moving from place to place? And why would Luke intentionally leave a trail for someone to track him down, for him to react the way he did in The Last Jedi.

You could put the blame on JJ Abram for that retarded plot or you could blame Rian Johnson for the follow up arc. The blame really goes to fukking Kathleen Kennedy for overseering both films and allowing that nonsense to happen under her watch.

JJ wrote an outline. Johnson and Kennedy threw it out to make the movie they wanted for themselves anyway.

Majority of the complaints about The Force Awaken was that it copy too much of the original trilogy.

My guess is that Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy took those complaints and decided to go full retard with The Last Jedi. Not trying to excuse RJ and KK but let's not pretend that TFA was a good set up, first film for a trilogy. Yes, it did set up plenty of story arcs, but all the arcs was straight duplicates of the original trilogy.

In fairness most big budget movies have some reshoots these days but if they end up reshooting like half the movie then at best it'd be a Solo type joint

The difference is people looked forward to every SW movie until Solo/Rise...

..granted, most people (general public) still do but watching the Joker trailer get more views than a new Star Wars trailer is pretty new.

The difference now is that the general public as opposed to the stanbase hated it too. It’s legit the worst written movie I’ve ever seen. The script hemorrhages from start to finish. By 30-40 minutes in, it becomes painfully clear that the film is broken beyond repair. The plot has more holes than Denzel at the end of training day and it does a worse job of maintaining continuity than the Michael bay transformers movies or the resident evil movies, which change their backstory every movie so its completely disorienting too. None of the others had this problem, including the episodes 1-2 which are riddled with plot errors like never explaining who the bad guys are in one and not explaining the causes of the conflict or motivations of the bad guy in either. I found a YouTube account called MauLer who has a 3 part series where he picks the movie apart like an autopsy from start to finish in painstaking detail that still left meat on the bone even after taking a little over 4 hours dissecting it. It’s that bad. The backlash is justified for this one.
