My box office analysis is BatsvSupes will be Big no doubt but not Star Wars Big. We are talking a 40 year old franchise that was based on an original sreenplay by George Lucas. All 6 films were blockbuster hits that had amazing legs which means people kept coming back and seeing it over and over again. People hate on Episode I and it still ranks as one of the highest selling films of all time. BatsvSupes is coming out where there is clearly Super Hero fatigue at the box office. Plus it drops in late March only 1 month before "Civil War". Star Wars 7 basically has Christmas and New Years and the week before Christmas on lock. Then it has the month of January to clean up too. It's been 10 years since "Revenge of the Sith" which ended the prequels on a high note. Clone Wars became a successful animated series. So the Prequel hate isn't no where near where it was a decade ago.

Episode I in 3D did over 100 Million at the box office in 2012 and everyone had it on DVD/Tape and it plays on TV. No franchise does repeat business like the Star Wars films. Alvin and the Chipmunks 4 isn't a threat though it appeals to families. The Reverant nor Hateful 8 will stop it it. Will Smith "Concussion" won't hurt it. All the new movies dropping Christmas don't stand a chance. Back in the day people use to line up for days to get tickets for Star Wars. Now that's why your hearing about Fandango and movietickets crashing. Sorry but watching Star Wars is an event. Like "Jurassic Park" was this summer but even bigger. Avatar, Titantic and Jurassic World numbers are in trouble. Episode VII will play like a summer movie in the month of December. It will re-write the record books on what a December movie can do. The last time this happen was when "Titanic" and "Avatar" dropped in December and changed the game at the box office.

for the record although I think this movie will make boat loads of money, I'm not sure if we should be reading too much into the pre-orders.

obviously the hardcore fans have come out the wood works. doesn't mean the casual audience will follow suit.

avatar made more money than god and it's not like that movie had this kind of hype.

but yes, I think this will be the number one movie of the year.

Co sign. I really don't think the recording breaking pre orders should be seen has gospel to much the film will gross. Of course the star wars geekdom/fandom was gonna come out for this.

And Avatar was also a different beast in that it the film turned into event film (James Cameron, 3D, etc) that everyone had to see in the following weeks that it opened.

you do realize that the top 2 grossing movies of all time (Avatar & Titanic) were released in December right?

Im talking about the opening box office weekend.

But yeah, we can talk overall gross too. And I don't think TFA will top either of those two films.

not saying anything revolutionary here, but it seems quite clear to me that Disney is coming for Avatar's crown based on all the incentives to see the movie depending on where tickets are bought, the day of the week its seen, and what theater a person catches a screening for it.

its like they are really executing Order 66 :lupe:

The Hobbit: Unexpected Journey opened on Dec 14, 2012 and pulled in $84 million in its opening weekend which is the record for a December opening.
TFA will EASILY surpass that total.

The Rule of Two doctrine, known as Chwayatyun in Sith and also called theBanite system, was the guiding principle of the Order of the Sith Lords after the internecine New Sith Wars. It replaced the practices of Lord Kaan's Brotherhood of Darkness, which claimed equality among Sith Lords and forbade the use of the title "Darth".

The Rule of Two was instituted by Darth Bane, once a student at Kaan's Sith academy, in response to what he viewed as inevitable, self-destructive infighting within the Sith Order. The Rule of Two states that there would be only two Sith at one time, a Master and an Apprentice, guaranteeing that when the Apprentice becomes powerful enough in the ways of the dark side to take the title of Master, only then would they be worthy of the title. This transfer of power would only take place when the Apprentice takes their Master's life and finds a worthy student to repeat the cycle. Both Master and Apprentice were considered to be Sith Lords.

There is always a reason why the tule of two exists too many sith lords is a bad thing...

See palpatine took the rule and killed his apprentices because he wanted to stay in power for as long as possible, he knew one would rise up to kill him, because that's the way it always goes...
