It's the beastie boys music it seems misplaced

Yeah, it's a really bad music choice because it changes the vibe of the trailer so much. Like the actual footage isn't that "out there" for this Star Trek reboot series, but the music just doesn't work in this setting at all.

It's a damn shame they had all of those Klingon references/appearances in the previous film AND Idris Elba, and yet still decided not to use Klingons.

That's true, but I can see why the studio might want to give the latest film a more 'fun' element' to possibly attract a bigger audience. Especially compared to the tone of the last film.
