That was a weird choice they made but it gets overblown. The series has danced around that plot point ever since.
weird choice? it fukked the whole franchise lol

of course they gotta dance around it.... the most significant development in the universe is the time you jumped out the TV

Beat the demo this past weekend. My biggest gripe by far is how every attack (even basic attacks) use up the AP meter. And you'll quickly run out and have to switch characters or wait for AP bar the refill before you can attack again.

Limiting basic attacks in action-rpgs is ALWAYS WACK!!

You are supposed to use blindside attacks to build up the AP bar.

Worth buying full-price then? It doesn't look like the jump ahead in quality that Tales of Arise was for that series

It doesn't have the backing/budget for that.

Here is my review after a few hours:

Positives:

  • Combat is very satisfying, it's just fun going around killing and flying into shyt. Seems to have a lot of abilities as well.
  • Traversal is also very good, with the drone and gliding.
  • Performance is solid after the trash demo perf.
  • The open world is pretty well-designed in terms of it being a playground to fight shyt in, and traverse, in.
  • The couple of boss fights so far have been pretty cool.

Mediocre:
  • Pretty much everything else - story/characters/writing are meh, the graphics are AA, soundtrack is nothing special.
  • Everything costing AP is likely to upset people, although the point is to attack blindside to stack AP.
The bad:

  • Your characters will die in boss fights because they won't move from big AOE attacks.
  • The sci-fi aspect is super superficial and the NPC design and locations are just generic JRPG medieval towns.
  • The side quests are trasssshhhhhhh.
All in all, 7/10 is fair; some elements are higher than that though.
