Spin: When did you finally realize that Jay Z's discography is borderline trash?

Not Gods Son, LIG and I Am.
And it depends on the Jay album.
Vol 1 is the strongest of that list.

He's batting .500 with his first 8 albums which is a big deal considering he dropped 8 albums in 8 years.

Even when talking about his post Black Album career he has AG and WTT. So even if you hate KC, BP3 and MCHG, that's still batting .400.

It goes to show you how many sheep we have in the Hip Hop community. Jay told you his debut is a classic, then...BOOM...Reasonable Doubt is a classic.

Jay told you that It Was Written was meh, then...BOOM...It Was Written was meh.

Jay told you that Nas makes 1 hot album every ten years, then...BOOM...Nas only makes 1 hot album every ten years.

Let's just keep it a buck ya'll: Jay has a litany of wack/mediocre albums. Yea, he's a dope MC but when you really think about it he has put out an awful lot of wack albums for a MC that is universally hailed as one of the best ever. Nas' disc resume is far better in quality. Jay made ya'll think otherwise

Honestly, I think Jay-Z's output is comparable to LL. LL has classics (i.e. Radio, Mama Said Knock You Out). But LL fell off hella times in the 90's with many wack albums. The only reason I think LL doesn't get mentioned among the GOATs (he basically coined that term btw) is because the 80's and early 90's are like ancient history now. It's like how everyone loves Jordan but no one gives props to Dr. J or Magic anymore. And the Blueprint does sound dated as hell. Just reminds me of 6XL Galaxy tall tees, size 60 throwback jerseys and size 44 Akademiks jeans on size 32 waists and Sean Jean velour suits with head bands and Timbs :scusthov:. Those sped up soul samples don't sound like big budget big money top of the rap game production and never did :scusthov:. Maybe the Blueprint will sound better in ten years when early 2000's nostalgia replaces 90's nostalgia. But I doubt it. :ld:

Let me preface this by saying that Jay is an incredible MC and definitely one of my favorites of all time.

But let's be real: argument can be made that he has made the most dud ass albums out of any of the all-time greats. He has at least 4 trash ass albums (Blueprint 2 and 3, Kingdom Come and MCHG) and several underwhelming albums. And he had the gall to say Nas is batting a 1 hot album every 10 year average? :russ:

Speak on it @wingstop :sas2:
Jay in my top 10 but I somewhat agree with u.

This is the knock I have on jay in my ten. He has more holes than the other nikkas do. In my list

But he makes up for it with skills and the highs of his catalog(Blueprint, RD'etc)

I'm on tablet so I'll comment more later

The analogy is flawed tho. In baseball if you're batting .400 you're MVP/Hall of Fame proficient. In music if your albums are only good less than half the time then you, or your fans, shouldn't be talking about other artist's discography. Your projects being good only 4 out of 10 times is nothing to be boasting about.

I agree. I love Jay so I really don't shyt on him on here. I'm just calling it how I see it. He's had a notable amount of wack/average albums. He's still a Top 5 like MC because he does have classic albums and songs, superior rapping talent and people tend to deify him because he's easily the most successful rapper ever.

Jay-Z albums are the music equivalent of Madden video games.

Madden hasn't come out with a real dope game in a while. They quality ain't up to par. But we still cop every year it drops. Why? Because it's Madden! The franchise name means more than the quality of the games.

That's Jay's recent discography in a nutshell :francis:
