Spin: When did you finally realize that Jay Z's discography is borderline trash?

The analogy is flawed tho. In baseball if you're batting .400 you're MVP/Hall of Fame proficient. In music if your albums are only good less than half the time then you, or your fans, shouldn't be talking about other artist's discography. Your projects being good only 4 out of 10 times is nothing to be boasting about.

Who is this in comparison to though?

Ice Cube is in my top 5, but out of his last 5 albums, only one was dope to me. Does that make his discography borderline trash? No, because he has classics, and in his prime there were way more hits than misses, and it's the same with Jay.

I'm just wondering who are all these artists with perfect or near perfect discographies, to where a artist like Jay-Z's is considered borderline trash

I guess so. The problem in hip-hop though is that you have to put out so much content, especially when you first start out.

Besides pop singers, rappers are the only recording artists who put out so much content in short time period.

I've been saying that Jay has a good amount of forgettable albums in his discography. More than most dudes that are routinely mentioned in Top Ten conversations. Props to you for bringing up Cube tho. He, just like Jay, is in my Top 10 but he hasn't made a really good album in like 2 decades imo.

Nah, not really. There's country, rock, R&B artists that put out way more albums, in short periods of time, than rap artists, breh.

Jay has one album that you can argue as a true classic and thats RD. BP and other "classics" from that era are overrated.

Vol 3, BP2, KC, BP3 and MCHG are all weak albums.

I feel the same about Nas, I haven't and problem won't return to a good chunk of his discography. Still an all time great in my eyes but albums like I am..., Nastrodamus, Street's Disciple etc. don't
really need to be returned to.

Then there's the way some of his better albums can be lopsided and lose steam half way through. They're still great but they hit noticeable snags.
