To be honest id simply prefer spike create a fresh new show that could be set in the universe of his films and just have cameos from the characters of films or something.

Some of the stuff in his films are so timely that to “modernize” them would render them useless.

Spike has done nothing over the last couple decades to get me to instill any faith in his ability to create something new.:manny:

Also I disagree about the content of his most popular films: I think the themes and major plotlines of those films are still quite relevant in today's times. They'd just need to be properly modernized.

Just finished the series and overall I enjoyed it :ehh:.

The fact each episode is around only 30 minutes and the season is only 10 episodes helps.

I really like the opening credits with the jazz music playing and all the different shots of people in the neighborhood.

I mostly kept watching to see where she would end up and who she would end up choosing :lupe:. I felt her decision at the end was true to who she was as a character, but it couldn't have been me at that table for long :hubie:.

Despite how beautiful Nola's face and brown eyes looked :noah:.

I don't know what accent Fat Joe was doing, but his scenes were :heh:.

Was I the only one who thought Jamie's wife was white at first :patrice:

Yea I thought she was white too.

I said characters not themes.

Give it a shot. It’ll either work for you or it won’t. It’s a show with a main female character so yeah there will be feminism in it as there should be. Whether it’s corny or forced I can’t speak on. It’s a spike lee joint so either you’re with his style and his voice and messages or you’re not. And that’s how it’s always been with him.

This.

And it not like he has to write anything. Dude probably has a ton of scripts being floated his way that he doesn’t have to re-heat any of his old stuff just to ride whatever wave 2017 is on. shyt is disappointing because Spike could literally kick off his own streaming service and curate it with his own shyt as legacy flagships and then let some younger showrunners do their thing.

And if Spike wanted something “relevant” for 2017 there’s a ton of topics to tackle that don’t resemble “Insecure BK before Insecure was Insecure”

Spike has the themes he just needs to work with younger talent to make the execution more realistic. This is why this show is a mess and chiraq was a mess. This is why shows like Insecure actually work.

Spikes latest work look good due to technology but they are all missing what made his early work good. Right now Spike appears to be disconnected with the ground level of things.

At first i thought i was just being a man that simply didnt understand some of the stuff in thos show but even my girl felt it was trash.

To be honest this show was dope, I like it from them showing African religion which I have been learning about the past couple years, the soundtrack and them showing the album artwork after the songs play which is dope, some of the story lines and writing is really dope and the scenes are powerful. However I still don't get the take away from this series, is it that we should co-sign thots or some kind of polyandry-feminist propaganda. Nola is selfish and using everyone and I know she is doing this because she wants to control her own narrative and her own labels not letting society define her but it's still selfish and I don't get the message. Someone help me lol.

On another note the actress who plays Nola though, good lawd :ohhh:She is sexy as fukk.

So i don't know if i missed something but..
did she end up sorting things out with her bougie art gallery friend? i didn't see anything about that in the last episode.
Nah they never did, I also wonder about the gentrfication G and if Nola really made that. Maybe I missed that part cause I was busy texting

Lol the Yourba stuff was pure pandering to the fake woke chicks who dabble in thos stuff for novelty factors. The simple fact she is practicing this stuff yet lives the life she lives and treats people the way she does is comical.

The simple fact there was no take away from this show proves it sucked.

Most of us are just happy to see black people on tv that we excuse the huge flaws of this show.

:yeshrug:I took it as though she wasn't going to allow social norms/traditions undermine her personal agency and decisions. With that comes a strong level of selfishness though. Thing is I am not sure if the selfishness is being written as something to be proud of or just to accepted as a harsh reality. There were several times watching where I asked myself "are they deliberately TRYING to make us dislike this woman"? because her a$$hole tendencies were on full display in several scenes.

Y'all ain't like Redhook Summer? I thought that was a good film.

Chiraq was also good with the controversy aside. I mean I know he used some old greek tragedy I believe as it's source material where the women abstained from sex to stop the violence but he did that to bring light to the issue that in Chicago the insane amount of violence has to be stopped.

Good point, she is practicing this stuff but living selfish and reckless with no real discipline. A lot of them chicks are like her too with the septum ring and everything lol, I just like the fact they put this in a show but you right :russ:

Though I can't say because there was no take away it sucked because some stories are just a story with no real moral or point. Spike told a story and told it well so I got to salute the writers one of them being Spike's sister and Spike for the work they did showing gentrification and black issues. However I didn't like the male characters in the beginning and I still don't like Greer and find Mars to be too stupid sometimes but they grew on me a lil, no homo. However the finale, that sucked! I mean I understand
the thanksgiving thing happened in the movie
but here it served no real purpose.
It's almost a middle finger in their face as to say F you, your my bytch and you're gonna like it. Even them dancing together was so unbelievable, spike should have made them fight each other which is more believable
. I also don't like that there was no responsibility on her part, no accountability, in insecure Issa had consequences for her actions and they show characters that are rich and illustrate different expressions of the black experience. Even Molly who is a hoe, you see her wanting to be wifed up and her frustration with that. In this show all her fukk ups are magically fixed.
