Yeah man, I get it now. It was a coping mechanism.shyt was comical at first but they reveal why she does it and it's pretty insightful and touching
"you don't do what they do, you find folks who do what you do"
God bless the writers of this show and Spike for being a brilliant director. Episode 5 is so powerful.
From booty shots to the racial issues that kids in America have to face. This is some real shyt.
I guess, maybe I'm from an alternate dimension but much of these issues are those of people who dont grow up around other black people face.
Not true, any black person who goes to college may have to deal with the whole thing about juggling two identities and dealing with white people. Lots of girls from the hood also have the whole pressure about having a nice booty and being IG famous in order to make money, sometimes superficial but sometimes their are deeper issues their as well. Especially the part at the end of episode 5 where Nola is talking to the young girl about her not idolizing hoes and the issues of identity women have to deal with.I guess, maybe I'm from an alternate dimension but much of these issues are those of people who dont grow up around other black people face.

I’d say the issues Nola deals with when it comes to being a woman and the whole sexual assault thing is a very real issue homie. Along with gentrification, the pressures black women feel to be a certain way and look a certain way, and the issues of identity.
As far as her financial issues, those are probably native to a certain age group and demographic but the stuff the societal stuff and woman stuff she was going through, I’ve seen it with my female friends and talked to them about it. So I'd say there’s truth to it
Love the question posed in the last episode and the series overall: what kind of a lady acts like a man? As men I feel like we’re roo quick to label women based on their shyt while feeling like it’s cool for us to do whatever we want
I'm talking the random inserts of BLM, the hoe empowerment stuff, etc.
Some folks cut from a different cloth but where I'm from we had bigger fish to fry coming up.
Every dude I know who sleeps around owns that their a hoe and dusty, Nola wanting to avoid the titles shows her delusion.
Spike is always going to talk about the issues today and that community. So for college educated kids living in fort Greene in 2017 this is what they’re dealing with. It’s not about what we dealt with coming up since it’s not a story about someone coming up. It’s about an adult dealing with adult shyt. Rent, relationships, money, family drama, friends, etc. while set against the backdrop of an ever changing Brooklyn
