Blacks think Rosewood was bad but they wrote Black Wall St out of the history books. A Black Town in the early 1900's with their own economy getting bombed by White Racist. I bet a movie about Black Wall St with a love story would piss white people off, lol. Blacks are still learning about the Tuskegee Airman cause a lot of their story were also written out of history books. Our History has been whitewashed from not just Slavery but plenty of other things. But this is what happens when we don't tell our history and someone else does. The problem is bigger than Django to me. We just haven't been able to tell our stories properly in Hollywood. Look at the hell Spike went through to get Malcolm X out.

Dog im from BK and went to OU. I knew black people FROM TULSA who.never heard of it being Black Wall street back in the day!!!!!! :damn:

I didn't like the wild black slave having to be tamed by his white teacher aspect of the film.

that's the MO from Amistad, Lincoln, and now this film. blacks never played a major role in their own freedom without the help of some white man giving it to them. blacks fought for the own freedom to

I'm not offended by the film, and you're right that if anything it'll highlight shyt many white (AND black) people don't know about slavery. There was some cac in the theater who was like "hot box...that's not real is it...?" This movie educated a lot of stupid people about what slavery was - an ugly, disgusting time period that cannot be justified. And I don't call them stupid in a demeaning way, to be fair they have been failed by schools that refuse to discuss slavery.

It's a shame it took a movie to expose the ugly side of racism, but if this leads to people researching the topic and learning more than that's a great thing. Everyone should see it, it's damn good

the movie is doing just that for some which is why I appreciate the film. Its sad to say but Rap, we might get what we want because of this film (can't wait for 12yrs a slave to come out). This film hit a lot of cacs in the mouth & they really can't believe that it was this ill. I've ran across several reviews and tried to drop more sources of knowledge for the people to read that's interested. I think this film put a foot in the door for us to discuss this stuff.

while she still has a lot to learn, she is atleast headed in the right direction.

GROUP TO PROTEST DJANGO DOLLS AT GOLDEN GLOBES:

najee-ali-djano.jpg

Najee Ali, NAN and Others to Protest ‘Django’ Slave Dolls at Golden Globes

A movie and TV award show like the Golden Globes isn’t where you would normally find protestors. But, according to Najee Ali, Director of Project Islamic Hope, this Sunday, outside the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the site of the Golden Globes, is where he, the LA chapter of the National Action Network and other community activists will be posted up.
Why, you ask? Because the powers that be behind the “Django Unchained” action figures (Harvey Weinstein and Quentin Tarantino) will be there.

Yep, the film, “Django Unchained,” is nominated for several awards (best picture, best director, best supporting actor) at Sunday’s event. and as far as Ali is concerned, it’s the perfect location to stage the protest. He also details why he and other folks have a problem with what are now being called “Slave dolls.” “Quentin Tarantino and Harvey Weinstein are responsible for the creation and launch of the ‘Django Unchained slave dolls.’ “These dolls help trivialize and make light of the true horrors of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Millions of my ancestors died during slavery,” said Ali in a statement to EURweb.

“Tarantino and Weinstein are making a financial profit off the blood of my ancestors. They would never dare to sell a Hitler or holocaust survivor doll because the Jewish community would not allow and accept it. The African- American community must have the same resolve to defend the legacy of our ancestors. Slavery is not a doll that comes with accessories.”

“The Los Angeles chapter of the National Action Network is in full support of the rally. We want these dolls pulled from the market. We’re not going to let Tarantino or Weinstein rest until our demands or met,” Stated Rev K.W. Tulloss, President of the L.A.chapter of the National Action Network.

What: Project Islamic HOPE and a coalition of African-American civil rights groups will launch a rally at this year’s Golden Globes awards ceremony in protest of the of “Django Unchained” slave dolls.

Where: Beverly Hilton Hotel 9876 Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills, CA 90210
When: Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013
Time: 3:00 pm

Sponsors include: Project Islamic HOPE, the L.A.Chapter of the National Action Network, Weller Baptist church. The Compton branch of the NAACP.

The "White Savoir" plot device is very strong in Hollywood formulas. QT did try to give Django some shine in those last 20 minutes but the weight of the movie he needed to be guided to victory. "Amistad" actually did a great job in the beginning showing the brutality of Slavery during the actual travel here but once it got to the Court Drama the White Savior complex came in.

"Lincoln" dealt with it more from a political aspect, the movie left out some things but I thought it was a powerful portrayal of what Lincoln had to go through to get Slavery passed and end the War. Mind you they ended up blowing his brains out. You think they would of killed Lincoln if he didn't free the slaves? Doubtful.

I'm quite sure every color of person has said some racial slur in a QT flick. the movie would be pretty fake if all those racist whites in the 1850's weren't running around saying ****** all day. What did they expect?

Why does this deserve coverage? How does protesting dolls move us forward as a people?

You're better off blaming the people covering the story.

I bet there was about 15 people out there that the press has dressed up as a "protest"

Come on man.
