What do you consider attention? Saying "No...I'm against those dolls" over the internet isn't drawing a person away from other real issues.

this is a country with over 30 million black folks in it....and you really believe that there shouldn't be 15 people out of that number to congregate and protest something.

Dog....the media is the one generating a story around this. All I'm doing like MOST people is saying "no......fukk those dolls." There isn't some city to city Trayvon Martin protest against these doll.

Come on....
The people standing out there protesting are generating the story. People like the dude who posted the story in this thread are generating the intrest in this story. Famous people like spike lee who reach a lot of our community and the world, are who's giving this story it's legs. Al Sharpton is boycotting the dolls.

Yes the media is reporting, but it is the people who are giving them the story to report and the ratings to justify the reporting.

Dog...there are people of greater numbers standing outside to protest things that aren't generating stories.

Wells Fargo moved into the building I work in about 4 months ago and there was a huge protest against their discriminatory loan practices in front of here. About 10 times the size of those protesting the dolls yet couldn't get a SNIFF of coverage.

What magical power does those 15 Django protesters hold that those 100+ people in front didn't?

Man please....the MEDIA decides what to run with. Stop blaming those 15 folks man. That's bs...

If spike lee and Al Sharpton were outraged about Wells Fargo, that story would have gotten some burn. If the media wrote a story about django protests and nobody paid attention, then they wouldn't write anymore django stories. It's not about the 15 people standing there, black people are giving this entire story more attention than it deserves.

Al Sharpton HAS said something about Wells Fargo.

That media and their selective nature DIDN'T CARE!!

It's AMAZING to me how you give ZERO credence to the selective attention the media gives to protests.

I'm not giving zero credence to the media. I'm saying that black people should give the coverage zero credence, but they don't so the media continues on.

Then why did you initially blame the 15 protestors for garnering the medias attention? They have ZERO control over who the media decides to cover and put energy into.

I wholeheartedly agree that black folks need not resort to responding to everything the media puts attention on...but I'll be damned if I blame the 15 protestors for doing what they feel is right. They don't control who the media gives attention to.

:mindblown: where did I blame the protesters themselves. I said WE as in all of us should concentrate on more important things. That's goes for the protesters, black people in the media, black activists such as, al Sharpton, and people like us reading and passing on the stories.

Protesting things like this, takes time, energy, and attention from real racism, and the real effects that slavery had on our community. Before the protests only QT fans and movie buffs would have probably bought the dolls, now the added attention will have racist white folks rushing to go buy them. These dolls don't effect us in any way, they should be ignored.

:comeon:

Look at how much POWER YOU gave 15 protestors as opposed to those who selectively GAVE them attention....

No it doesn't.

Tell me, before this protest, who of any importance was focusing on "real" racism?

I only gave them power in regards to the attention they garnered from all sides. If spike lee didn't make the "django is racist" story popular in the first place, those protesters wouldn't be standing there and the media wouldn't be reporting on it. We gave this story legs, if you can't see that then I don't know what to tell you.
No it doesn't.

No one. Which is even more of a reason as to why we shouldn't concentrate on non-stories such as this one. We should use our power and energy to fight real institutionalized racism, not QT and django.

How come 150 people protesting couldn't garner that power?

Again...I ask you...what type of pixie dust were those 15 protesters working with to get the media's attention that 150 couldn't blow into the air?

Because this story was already more popular than the Wells Fargo story before any protests occurred. The general public including black people and our supposed leaders are more concerned with django than they are with Wells Fargo. A "django protest" story attracts more viewers than a Wells Fargo story.

And whose responsible for making a story popular?

Don't blame the protestors for doing what they felt is right.

You refuse to get it man. Al Sharpton over the phone saying he's against some dolls suddenly equals him flying out somewhere and physically protesting against Wells Fargo. It's HIS fault that the media decides to put one over the other.

Spike lee and every other black person that came out talmbout "django is exploiting our ancestors"

Controversy sales. We created the controversy so the media sells it. Again they can't report on the bullshyt, if we give them no bullshyt to report on.

Exactly..."talmbout"

Here you are equaling Spikes commentary to that of 15 people standing outside and protesting.

Spike works in Hollywood. He's talking about his peers like he always does.

:smh:
