The GOAT series, with the WOAT finale. To be fair, Chase got a bit pretentious with a simple mob story after the whole heart attack thing. This was a guy who was garbage at writing a compelling story so he stuck with what wins everyone emmy's and Oscars...the Mafia. His cheap attempt to add a pompous pseudo existential ending to a very real and gritty show was just dumb. It was contrived, nothing about it was genius, it was just pretentiously lazy.
Vince Gilligan is a better writer, mainly because he understands catharsis, and everything (literally everything) has been planned out. Its like watching a Kubrick film with Gilligan, you're always looking for subtle hints about what's going to happen. Chase just wrote a tired ending, that has been done by videogames and films a like...its always bad...fading to black.

WOAT Finale is Dexter hands down!
I hated the sopranos ending... but Dexter ending was pure shyt! It was like they threw shyt against the wall and said go with it... fukking riding off into a hurricane and become a lumberjack after giving your kid to a serial killer!

When you as a creator are telling me a story you made and you get to the end and tell me interpret the ending how you will that's the biggest copout you can do. It's your story not mine so you end it properly.

Not really. If you look at popular long running shows most of them completely botch the ending. Apparently The Sopranos didn't want to go out like that so they just faded to black and told the viewer to decide what happened. They'd rather be controversial than abhorred.

the way the ending sets up the POV makes it subtle but eventually obvious upon multiple viewings that Tony took a bullet to the head.

Except nobody sees it actually happen. Anybody can make up anything past the credit roll of the final episode and say it happened. I can say Marlo found his way back to the top after The Wire ended. If the creators didn’t show it happen or credit it happening it isn’t canon.To me. Imo. It's safe to say he got wacced.so I don't see the issue

People aren’t talking about the quality of the ending. The most notable thing about it is that it’s unfinished. Breaking Bad had a solid ending it got applause for being so.
Many good shows have terrible endings. You can’t say they ran away from having conclusive endings like this show did. It’s hard to please everyone but it’s easy to please almost no one.
