Whenever you see an anti-competitive company whine in the media about some lesser company in their space making moves in an attempt to be more competitive you know something good is happening for consumers.

I mean this company is basically like a defacto monopoly when it comes to their customer base in this space and they're talking about this will have a negative impact. No this will have a positive impact because it might very well give rise to something worthy of you competing against.

As it stands now in the high end console space Microsoft is the last thing preventing Sony from effectively becoming what YouTube is in the user generated video space. So far they've been the only company willing to try to compete with Sony and the moment Microsoft decides fukk it we're out we'll all suffer for it. At that point absolutely nothing will keep Sony honest. Just like YouTube does whatever the hell it wants, listens to nobody, and makes decisions that make it's users and creators miserable but they're the only real game in town so people take it.
