Yes, the price is the reason why, unless you think the Wii would have sold close to 100 million units at a $399 price point.

And PS3s were selling for $2000 at release, what is your point? There are always people out there that will pay well above MSRP at launch. The system is not moving the massive amount of units if PS3 and 360 were the same price.

You kidding yourself man. Old folks homes were not buying up Wiis because they were cheap, they were all playing Wii tennis and bowling. Google nursing home and Wii sports and see for yourself. It was touted as being a great way to get exercise.

:laff: At you thinking senior citizens would have bought a 360 instead if it was the same price.

Wii sports came with the system.

So, for $250 you got a system and game, vs the stripped down 360 @ $299 with no game and no harddrive, or $399 premium system without a game.

What are people going to choose....

Bruh, there used to be lines in Best Buy of people just trying to play Wii Sports. You think they decided to stand in line to play because the system was only 250?

I dont think you will ever meet another person who would say the success of the Wii was not due to the control method.

Son, the masses would not be buying the Wii if it were $300-600 like the 360 and PS3, why is that hard to understand?

You don't think there were people who couldn't afford a PS3 and then settled for a Wii?????

Do you not remember the crowd silence when the PS3 price was announced?

The Wii was only 50 bucks cheaper than 300.

Like i said, these were peoples Grandmas and Aunts standing in line at Best Buy to play Wii Sports. Those people are not in the market for a 360 or PS3 no matter what the price point was. Old people were not in the market for Gears of War.

i think cheaper had a reason to do with it but i think more had to do with the fact that it was a holiday season release and the wii had new technology that was geared more towards the family demographic (which is a section of the population that could afford to spend a guap at that time since they all went for $200+ on top of the msrp).

over time, people bought the wii because it was definitely cheaper

at first i thought the wii just had a couple weeks on the ps3/xbox, but they were all released around the same time

:merchant:

It came with a game @ $250, the cheapest Xbox 360+ a game was $360 before tax. The cheapest Ps3 + game was $560 before tax and the 60gb was $660 before tax.

You keep pointing out Grandmas and Aunts as if that is were all the sales came from, for comparison the PS2 has sold nearly 200 million units without the vaunted Aunt and Grandma market. The controls were a big point, but not bigger than the price.

If you're $110 cheaper than your nearest competitor, you're going to sell.

Why you say that? They announced cross play pasbr, ac3, call of duty, apps, and there are other games they didn't even talk about such as lbp vita, lbpkarting, nfs and a few others. e3 isn't over.

You gonna sit here and tell me demographics have little to do with it when i can pull up the sales charts for Wii games and see Mario Kart, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Play, Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, Just Dance 2, Just Dance 3, Wii Party, Mario Party, Mario at the Olympic Games. Of their top 15 games only 2 are non-party family type games, both Mario Galaxy's.

No system has ever been that lopsided when it comes to party family type games to hardcore games. If it was a mix of gamers buying this system (because of the price like you say) we would have seen a few regular type games on the list.
