They didn’t have to offer anything like MS after they worked on the original Halo games. If MS would have taken care of them they wouldn’t be selling to Sony.
:yeshrug:
Offering them more compensation is taking care of them. Don’t care how you phrase it, it’s better than what MS did for them years ago. Hell even now, the rumors are that they were in talks with MS but the price tag was too high. MS didn’t want take care of them …so we did.
You don't know their current compensation. :gucci:

You don't know if they will receive a closing bonus as a result of the sale.

You don't know what's Going to happen with any other deferred compensation they may have had.

You're just making a bunch of assumptions based on stanleyism.

Golden Handcuffs :blessed:

No they're doing a common practice in corporate America where you receive deferred compensation to handcuff talent.

Let's say your receive a performance based bonus this year of 60k.

They give you 40k in cash.
Give you 20k in stock.
And the 20k in stock will vest over the next four year. Some companies do quarterly schedules, other may due bi-annual or annual.

Either way, calling deffered payments as taking care of is about as disingenuous as you can get. :mjlol:

You clearly don't work in the industry :mjlol:

It has nothing to do with taking care of employees. It's meant to dangle a carrot in front of them to keep them from leaving.

Golden Handcuffs.

This is a common practice of :umad:. Now shut up.

sony is paying for the talent as much as the IP, they want to help them build out their multiplayer infrastructure which is why they are paying them incentive bonus’ to stay on. Thats what happens when you buy out companies in a creative industry. Everyone staying on is gonna be rich.

Trying to frame this as a negative thing is desperate.

Ehh. Sony is paying more for the talent than they are the IP. If you look back at the start of the thread that’s precisely what many of us said, given the absurdly inflated price.

Trying to frame this “payout” as an atypical and altruistic thing is naïve. :stopitslime:

It’s not altruistic, its business. That doesn’t mean its not good business, especially for the devs that stay on. They have complete creative autonomy and they are getting greatly compensated for it.

Theres absolutely no way to frame this as a bad thing. It’s literally an everyone wins situation

This the third company that has owned Bungie. Stop it. Getting passed around like a Kardashian out here. And Microsoft literally saved them from closing down the first time. Of course that is glossed over. Microsoft also declined to buy them this time around before Sony agreed.

I haven’t tried to spin anything as “good” or “bad”. Some employees will be rewarded handsomely depending on their current tenure, amount of RSUs and remaining time at the company. How that’s any different than what you’d find at another company (like Microsoft) beats me but of course this is daddy Sony we’re talking about:mjgrin:.

Well, rebut with facts instead of emojis and quick takes, brother. I’m excited for Bungie’s future but it’s kind of sad this would’ve been spun differently by some of you had a different company bought them.

If it was Microsoft aka Phil that made this deal your mouth would have been full

They’re too busy union busting raven studios though :francis:
