Now we wait for this to be spinned negatively
In another thread someone pointed to John Carlos as someone that played and protested, turns out John was on the call with them.
Yet you got clown reporters & former players questioning Kyrie.
Spin what? Nowhere in that passage does it indicate that John Carlos said they shouldn't play:
""Irving, Bradley and the coalition of players want to pursue some concerns further with the league, sources said, including: the investment of resources and ideas of all league constituencies -- from the commissioner's office, ownership level, management and players association -- in social justice reform."
....everyone agrees with this; just as Carlos did in HIS TIME, when he decided to run and NOT continue with the boycott at the 1968 Olympics
What do you think the players should do?Thing is the great brothas tommie smith and john carlos made their statement in the 68 Olympics. The great Lew Alcindor (his name at the time) made a statement and boycotted that same Olympics.
Yet no one even talks about kareem boycotting that Olympics. But they do talk about Tommie and John making the protest in that same Olympics.
Also in the 68 Olympics there was debate back in US whether the black athletes who attended the Olympics that year were sell outs (Spencer Haywood even mentioned the vitriol thrown his way). Tommie Smith and John Carlos mentioned that they wanted to make a statement that they were with the black folks back home. So they came up with the protest.
Not saying one type of protest is better than the other. But I just want to add nuance to this whole protest discussion.

yup, I made this point earlier. The most iconic protest of those 1968 Olympics was Tommy and Carlos running and then doing what they did. No one talks about Kareem's protest.
the black athletes attached specific demands to their agenda (exactly what Kyrie and them should be doing) and when they got most of them, most went on to participate in the games and ended up making a bigger statement than Kareem did
Return-To-Play Plan Not In Jeopardy:
Over 100 NBA players participated in a conference call on Friday in which Kyrie Irving made a case against resuming the season, but reporting from ESPN in discussing the issue with players, agents, the NBPA and league officials found no indication that the resume-to-play plan in Orlando is in jeopardy.
There's not believed to be a significant group of players ready to sit out.
There are some players who are expected to decide not to play, but not enough to compromise the league's plans to return. The plan was approved by owners 29-1 and by team represenatives 28-0.
