Sports ain't the only escape out here. Some areas are opening back up. Many others have opened up completely. Lots of people going back to work, and depending on where we are with the virus, kids will eventually go back to school. If sports is all it takes for you to ignore the protests, then you're not really invested in this social change anyway and it will show.

Sports is what started the whole lock down. Did you forget that it was the NBA suspending its season that triggered everything. Sports has an important place in American society. If the NBA players choose to protest in this fashion it will send shockwaves and make people continue to pay attention even with things opening back up.

People catching the virus and dying is what keeps sports locked down.

The National Guard was already in New Rochelle where the East Coast outbreak started the day before Gobert caught the virus. shyt was already heading in that direction. Gobert catching it is what made it real in the sports world.

I’m sorry but this is out the blue

I did not see this coming at all
Because NBA had a shytty plan, they just questioned team reps instead of asking everyone. They didn't discuss how the bubble would be, they only asked if you want to play or not, lol. Adam Silver just like everyone does not know how to deal with this virus. Even WHO comes up with new shyt every day. And on top of Corona Virus, some players are in no mood of playing with whats been going on in this country. I don't blame them.

Do we think the NFL PA will follow the NBA PA's lead?
NFL planning to open training camp in August
The CBA vote earlier this year showed you how strong the NFL PA is
The NBA might get a couple more weeks of pub but by mid August, its NFL 24/7 especially if there's no college football or baseball
I think most sports media focus will revert back to football like usual especially since it would bring everyone back to their regular sports schedule

Man it's their damn job. Like the waitresses, the transit workers, the delivery drivers, etc etc. You get paid to do a job. And paid in the top .05 percent of people in the country. Spare me with the sympathy shyt. Same mafukkas getting paid millions to play basketball, go to the store and interact with cashiers making 1/1000 of their salary. But naw they need to be ore careful. fukk outta here.

True. But it took the NBA shutting down for the public to realize how serious it was. Its why soon after the NBA shut down all the other major sports leagues followed suit. And then all the states started to shut down as well.

Sports has the effect of magnifying things. If the NBA players choose to boycott the restart it would send the same shockwaves the shut down did and would continue to keep the spotlight on the protests.

IMO the issue isnt really that the NBA would distract people from the issue. it's that outside of Lebron the top players of the top teams havent seemed particularly inclined to directly speak on issues. If the NBA does restart soon Lebron will be interviewed practically everyday and therefore will have ample opportunity to speak on issues particularly as that voter rights org gets running.

But it does seem like alot of players are missing the forest here. You’re risking setting back years of the predominantly black players association progress and giving leverage to the predominantly white ownership group.

Somebody supposedly said chess not checkers...

Yea simply saying chess not checkers sounds cool, until you're at the wrong side of checkmate two moves in.

Granted, it seems nobody knows what they're doing, on any side.

If not playing is about capitalizing on #BLM... then objectives/outcomes and expectations should be outlined, as well as the short and long term consequences...

...which is easier said than done if it's 350-400 players (75% black) each with their own viewpoints and KPIs.

If the real issue is dudes just dont want to play until there's a Covid-vaccine... well there's no solution for that, this season or next season.

If the spotlight on the protests isn't as intense on July 30 as it is now, it's not gonna be because there's a Pelicans /Spurs game on at 7:30.

So are you really trying to argue that if the NBA players boycotted the season it wouldn't serve as a huge statement around the entire globe? You don't think it would give more momentum and fuel on the need to make serious change now instead of just waiting?

I know some people just wanna be selfish and get their little bit of entertainment. But anyone with sense knows that an NBA boycott would be HISTORIC and show everyone this is a new day when it comes to black empowerment.

I think you would have more of a point if Floyd had been murdered during the season and THEN the players stopped playing. But because the season was stopped moreso because of covid, I dont think it would have the affect you think it would. ultimately IMO having NBA players make civil rights statements everyday while interviewed would make more of a statement then them not playing at all.

The NFLPA has shown us time and time again that they don't give a fukk and they will do anything it takes to play and get paid, they will take whatever offer is on the table no matter how bad it is.
